    Push Pole Bracket

2004 RF 18 that I recently busted the plastic holder out of my middle push pole bracket. I had to slam the boat in reverse at the ramp to avoid being hit by an idiot driving another boat, the push pole caught the dock beside me and it broke the middle bracket. I was furious but I digress. I've found some brackets online but the sizes are much longer (5 1/2") than what is on my RF18. I'm not sure if these are original from the factory but wondering if anyone knows where to get this same size replacement? I'd rather not buy the larger, non matching bracket and have to cut a bigger hole in it. (Rope in the photo is to hole the push pole on) Thanks in advance!

    Yamaha F115 starting issues

Battery switch is a few months old, as are the battery cables and connections. It works because I was able to use my accessories. Turns out is was the engine cable and the female end of it was corroded on the inside as well. She starts now, but I haven't had a chance to get back on the water.

    Yamaha F115 starting issues

2008 Yamaha F115 with 920 hours.... A month or so ago on a guide trip my engine shut off while running across some open water. Just immediately shut down. I turned it back over, started right back up and returned the clients to the dock I had picked them up at. Luckily for them it was the end of the day. I had a 20 plus mile run back to my dock. I ran around the corner to do a short test run and it dies. Turns over, but won't fire up. Every single time I try turning the key, the engine alarm goes off. I messed with it for an hour before poling back two miles to the ramp and spending the night at a hotel there till I could get to my truck the next day to retrieve it. On a Yamaha page, everyone says it was a fuel issue. I changed out the tiny circular screen in the VST. Changed the in line fuel strainer on the motor. Changed the filter in the bowl on the back. Changed the fuel water separator prior to the motor. It's definitely getting plenty of fuel flowing through the system. The engine alarm still went off every time I turned it over. Changed the oil to make sure it isn't oil pressure. Bypassed the kill switch, so that isn't it. Took the boat to a friend who is a former mechanic and he said it isn't getting spark at any of the plugs. He found that the engine cable, running from under the helm to the engine was severely corroded at the connection to the engine. Prior to the engine not getting fire at the spark plugs, it was at least getting power and turning over but not firing. I ordered a new one and dropped it off. He has been busy for a week and a half, so yesterday, I changed the engine cable out, running it from the helm to the engine. Also changed out two in line glass 10 amp fuses under the helm that were old and came apart when pulling the two ends off. Clearly they were very old. Turn the key over and nothing. Battery is properly hooked up, accessories work, so power is there from the battery. Tried turning it over while jumping the battery and still absolutely nothing. So at this point, I've replaced a very corroded cable with a brand new one, as well as old fuses with new and am even farther behind. I was told "well you probably didn't hook the the cable up correctly." Well, the cable has a plug on one and end and two plugs on the other end and I am sure that I lined them all up properly and plugged all three in correctly, as tight as they can possibly go. I'm at a loss, frustrated and about to haul it to a dealer. Any suggestions as to why power would suddenly not be getting to the motor and what caused this issue in the first place? Thanks!

    Loose t-top screws

I don't know about the 5200, but filling those holes with resin and strips of fiberglass stuffed down in the holes is the way to do it in my opinion. I tried multiple different options for loose screws on my poling platform and wish I hadn't wasted so much time fooling around with it and just refilled the fiberglass holes with fiberglass. It's solid now.

  11. My current 3-4 year old I-pilot remote is going haywire and won't work. Water damage is the cause, I think. Looking to buy another one. Used is fine, simply would like it to work obviously! Thank you!

Put this in Your Phone Florida Kids

There's multiple folks in Morehead City that are not fans of people fishing around docks. I have been yelled at, told the cops will be called on me, told that they own the water, all while fishing the ICW. One well known dock has a massive light he keeps on with lots of fish and the owner purposely ties up foam floating pads to the dock to keep anglers away.

No worries Muddy! I always thought "Woke" was the far left politically thinking in the US. Guess not having a specific definition is part of the insanity these days. I did just get back from a week of fishing in Florida and had no issues around fishing docks, so that was nice. Will see when I hit the North Carolina docks later this month. Tight lines!

I agree with you, though I wouldn't consider it to be "woke," people complaining. When I've been harassed, it's been by people flying flags on their boats or off of their houses supporting another candidate and not some far leftist group. I don't see how making it political benefits anyone, the people are just assholes and don't know the law or think they somehow own the ocean. It sure is fun when they say they are calling the cops to tell them to do so. Unfortunately for me, the cops never showed up. I also like asking them how much they paid for the water and how many gallons they own.

Thanks for sharing. I need to look up the official laws for Virginia and North Carolina for when the guys that own docks come out and start harassing us for fishing them.

    Yamaha F115 Trim leaking fluid

The machinist was able to drill out the last bolt and I finally got the whole trim and tilt back together with the 5 new seals. There was a very small round part that had fallen out of the two pieces, that is not located anywhere on either of the manuals I have. I guessed where it went and put it back in the hole it fit best in. I guess I guessed right. Yamaha bolts are on back order so I got some other ones from Lowes that are similar. Put the trim and tilt setup back on the engine on Thursday afternoon and then went through the hassle of bleeding it out. Ran the boat this weekend and the T&T worked great. So far I have seen no leaks. I will replace the Lowes bolts with the Yamaha ones when they arrive, with plenty of anti-seize. I figured out the best way to bleed the unit so here's my take on the steps to do it... 1. With motor up, fill fluid reservoir. 2. Slowly let motor down. It is very heavy, use two people and do not expect the T&T to work properly to "catch" the motor on the way down. Release the pressure screw on the side of the motor, lift it back up again (heavy as hell), and let motor sit on the little "kickstand" as I call it. Retighten pressure screw. Crack the reservoir cap, air should come out. Slowly take off cap and add more fluid if needed. Retighten cap. 4. Repeat step two, 3-4 times. 5. After third or fourth time, while the motor rests on the kick stand, try adding more fluid to the reservoir while a friend holds the trim up button. At this point there should be enough fluid and hopefully only a little air left and it will allow the motor to pull extra fluid in and essentially fill the whole system up. If this works, you're on the home stretch. Put the reservoir cap back on the slowly lower the motor down once more. Try using the tilt button to raise it up. Repeat this step as necessary until it is fully functioning. So glad that this problem is fixed! *fingers crossed* Thanks all for your help in this saga.

    Yamaha F115 Trim leaking fluid

Update, the machinist I took it to has gotten the last bolt by drilling it out. $100 cost. Now to get it back and put it all back together...

    Yamaha F115 Trim leaking fluid

Thanks David! So we ended up taking a grinder and cutting into the long bolt. We were able to hammer the housing off of the bottom half of the bolt. The top half was so seized it took 30 minutes of hammering with a pin to drive it through. The Gear Pump housing piece is on back order till May now. Ouch. Luckily I think we can simply use epoxy and close the cut up. It didn't go through anything except where the bolt slides through. The end of the bolt easily twisted out of the threads. I'm taking the rest of it to a machinist to get the last bolt out. We heated and cooled it numerous times and tapped on it and it just would not move. What a ridiculous problem.

    Yamaha F115 Trim leaking fluid

Thanks David. We used a center punch multiple times and new bits. It still ends up walking one way or another. We even tried drilling with a much smaller bit. Still walked. I thought the heat of drilling might make a difference as well. I called Yamaha customer service to ask their suggestion. Juanita, who picked up the phone and didn't know her rear end from a gas cap, told me they don't give technical advice. Of course, after some pressing, she went and talked to "a technician" who admitted that this is a known problem and that its a "messy and long" fix. She provided no solid information through whatever grape vine she was using. I asked her that since Yamaha knows it's a known problem, does Yamaha grease or use never seize on these bolts on new engines for when I need to repower in a few years? She responded with "it's your motor and your maintenance." Wow. I asked why then, would they put locktite or grease anywhere on any bolts or parts of the motor, to prevent known issues? Why even put oil in it? She had no response to my logic and I ended the call. Corporate customer service is so bad across the board. I also looked at buying an entire trim and tilt set up used off for $1200 from Dealersmarine in Suffolk, VA, only an hour and a half from my home n Richmond. It's also off of a 2008. They supposedly offer a 90 day guarantee but the guy told me the bolts are not covered in the guarantee. If I take the bolts out to make sure they come out and to grease them, it voids the guarantee. He basically admitted that they don't come out and blamed it on the tops of the bolts being an allen wrench head. Sounds like he doesn't know what he is doing either. I'm stuck, so frustrated, and about to try to just break the bolt off. I know it is loose in the threads and will come out.

    Yamaha F115 Trim leaking fluid

It's screwed. We soaked it, tapped on it, hammered on it, heated it, and everything over and over and then tried to drill the long bolt out, which didn't work as the bit walked and has now ground out a bunch, no matter how much we tried to get it to remain straight. Thanks Yamaha. Really appreciate them not putting never seize or grease in a slot with that much room in it that a bolt goes through. Awful craftmanship. Having to cut the whole piece off and just ordered $540 worth of parts for the new Gear Pump Assembly, which will begin making their way on a slow boat from Japan. Just 700 hours on this motor. I'm emailing Yamaha about it now but I'm sure I'll be ignored or told to pound sand. Looks like I'll be repowering with Zuki when the time comes! If you have a newer one of these motors I would strongly suggest putting never seize in the bolts on the trim unit!!!

    Helm Mat - RF18

I need a helm mat for my RF18. I spend so much time guiding, I'm going to wear the cartilage out of my knees. I've debated going the cheap DIY route and buying a standing pad for kitchen use and trimming that to shape. Has anyone done so? Pros / cons? I'm also open to buying one specifically made for RF18s. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Yea, it's ridiculous but I guess not everything is going to be easy. Good to know that replacing those rings fixed the issue. Thank you!
