Mysticfish
Mirage 2 ride question: Can anyone tell me what the ride is like on a ‘98 Mirage II 17? I have to cross some open water to get to where I’m fishing and I want to be able to run on the outside to chase tarpon. How do the hulls handle the chop? Ideally I wanted to hold out for the HPXV 18 but time and cost are not on my side.
captpn
These ride surprisingly well for a 17 technical skiff. This is due to the narrow beam at waterline and a rather large deadrise . But this also makes her tippy at rest and draft more than most. Totally manageable for 2 fly guys with sea legs. These are cool hulls. Sounds perfect for what you described and nicer than the 18 if you plan on poling - especially if its deep.
KimmerIII
We have a Mirage II. It is great for open water. We cross 13 miles of open water in the mississippi sound to get to the biloxi marsh to catch redfish. It handles chop well.
