What color SeaDek?

Hey guys,

Just looking for some opinions here.

I had Alex @ Castaway Customs come by and scan the new boat for some SeaDek. I'm not planning to do the deck, just under the gunnels and a few custom pieces for my console and my casting platform.

With my boat being seafoam and white powder coat I'm torn between a few options. If I had black powder coat i would have done black over seafoam.

I've always liked the look of the mocha or "teak" on the seafoam boats, but I feel like that's an "old man" look (no offense) and I wanted something a little sharper.

Alex suggested using the "storm gray" over seafoam as the darker gray gives the seafoam more contrast. I think this would look good under the gunnel... but not sure what to use for the pieces on the console and platform. The "mica" color is a pretty good match for the Pathfinder gelcoat/powdercoating. Or I could do a lighter gray over seafoam on the console/platform?

Any ideas or thoughts? pics would be awesome if someone has a seafoam green pathfinder with seadek.

Thanks!

Josh B.

I like to put a piece on top of the console for a couple reasons... it keeps things from sliding around if I set my phone up there, etc. Also I can temporarily stick lures, hooks, etc. in it while I'm fishing throughout the day which I generally remove when i'm done and put back into their place in the tackle tray.

The piece on the glovebox door is the best thing since sliced bread. I always put my knees against it when driving around, especially if it's rough out. It helps a ton!!!! highly recommended.

Here's a pic I found of seafoam over black on a hydrasport. Just to give an idea if I did seafoam over storm on the under gunnel pads.

and here's a pic of storm over seafoam... you can see how the "Pathfinder" logo would really pop on this.

I have some "cool grey" on my boat and really like it. It's close enough to the off white of the hull to kinda blend, but not too close that it looks like I tied to match it and failed. I don't have anything under it so habing it over sea foam would prob even look better....

Don't trust that pic tho, get them to send you some swathes. They cool grey has more brown than I would thought which helps it in this case. Or maybe it picks up the color of hull a little?

If you have a dive ladder, I recommend getting a little pad put on top of gunnel for a non slip step for getting on and off. I was able to make mine outta scraps.

I am thinking about the "mica" color also... instead of white. They are sending me some samples pieces to compare. But the Pathfinder deck/powder coating is really an off-white oyster color, not actually white.

Here's a pic of the Mica color and it's more of an off-white than what the color shows on their site.

He said Mica matches the gelcoat color the best, where as white looks completely different.

I had the front deck done on my last boat & it was great for throwing the cast net & overall use.... But I have a large platform up front & the feet of the platform started tearing it up after a couple months. About 75% of my trips I'm using the platform, which has seadek on it. So I figured I'd save myself some money & skip the front deck.

I'm waiting to get some samples before I make a decision... Depends how well the colors match.

  • 1 month later...

Try to stay away from the Black over Seafoam, the black will be very hot, the Cool Gray over Seafoam sounds awesome and will be easiest to clean. No reason (other than cost) to at least do your sole, even if you don't want to do the foredeck... Great look too.

Josh, I have the mica over black. No complaints on the color for sure. It goes well with the oyster white gelcoat on mine. Obviously a great product too. Tyler at Castaway did mine as well and of course it is first cl*** work and product too. Mine went down in Jan of 2011 and and I just replaced the nose piece when I had the troller off to install the Ulterra. I had worn the stipples off the nose piece and I am kinda OCD so I wanted to freshen it up. It matched exceptional. There is virtually no fading. I ordered samples of both and left them in the 10% pool chlorine for a week or so and color never faded a bit on the sample either. What you see here has about 600 hours on it based on engine time then and now. What you mention on the platform is relevant. I pulled the feet off the Yeti so it would sit flush to the SeaDek and be more stable but it would likely cause wear as you mentioned. Can shoot some better pics of the new nose piece or the color is you are thinking about mica for sure.
