FLDXT
Just curious, think I have seen one, Maverick sponsored guide had one. Any reason not to produce one? Being on the look out for a no frills, shallow water tiller, just curious why Maverick didnt make more?
jason p
I think they only made three of them, that’s what I was told by the owner of one of them. His name is Keith but I haven’t seen him in awhile. They’re definitely cool little boats for sure, I can’t imagine the mold got to beat up after so few but I don’t know anything about producing boats either so... Theres a couple of East Cape Glides on Microskiff.com, I've fished extensively on one with a 30HP Suzuki. That’s what I would get if I was in the market for a tiller skiff. FLDXT
So going back to this, wonder how hard it would be to convert a 17t to tiller? Wonder if the specs of the boat would be condusive.
jason p
Not too hard, you can buy “tiller kits” from motor manufacturers. A friend did it to a salvage Gordon Waterman, basically removed the console, wheel and binnacle and had a local glass fill the holes in the deck. It was a duck hunting, fly fishing machine for sure. As far as doing it to a 17T, I have no idea. This waterman had a Merc 40 and it was perfect. I’ve never driven a tiller motor above 40hp but I have seen them. May be scary running a 70hp tiller but again I have no idea.
