Flybrandon Posted May 25, 2020 Report Posted May 25, 2020 looking for an inshore boat to fish 2-3 maybe and also be able to run offshore in when its calm... which would be better? advantages or disadvantages of each.. Thank you... Quote
Sunstone Posted May 25, 2020 Report Posted May 25, 2020 I have a 23 and my best friend has a 22. I think the ride of the 23 is much better then the 22. The step hull and the extra length make for a better ride. I also have anther friend that has had both and says the 22 can't compare to the 23 mainly the ride. Quote
SCFD rtrd. Posted May 25, 2020 Report Posted May 25, 2020 I would buy the boat that suites my needs for the type of fishing I do most of the time. If you just fish off shore occasionally, you can adjust your speed to suite the waves regardless of boat. I chose the 23 because of the storage and accessibility of bilge area. I like to do minor repairs/replacement myself, so good access to the bilge was important to me. Plus, if you measure the 23, end to end, it is actually 24 ft. long. I can speak to the ride, because I've never been in a 22, but I can't imagine it would ride any better than a 23. The 23 is also faster with the same motor. Quote
jh141 Posted May 25, 2020 Report Posted May 25, 2020 I own a 22 TRS and if you are going offshore the 23 is the better boat. If you are running shallow banks and or fishing shallow bays the 22 is easier to control and floats shallower. If boat control in tight spots and two feet of water is critical the 22 is the way to go. If you can stretch the budget and do not have need to get in less than a foot or so the 23 hps would be the better choice. I do go offshore to chase the mullet run down the beach and hunt Mahi and jig the wrecks on a nice day and the 22 does very well. Stays dry, just have to slow down when it gets lumpy. Buy the way I chose the 22 TRS verse the Tournament for the bilge access also as I did not need a release well. Quote
Robert3 Posted May 27, 2020 Report Posted May 27, 2020 same here, my buddie has the 22 tournament, if there are rods in the leaning post, i can't walk around the back of it without jumping on rear deck. I can without much drama on the 23.. I drive my boat all the time in 2' of water. Skeg is limiting factor. Quote
