MuddyBottomBluz Posted May 26, 2020 Report Posted May 26, 2020 US1/Dixie Highway is a Federal road, a US highway, not a county road, state road, how were they legally doing that? I know they wanted to put up a toll and the fed's said no! The Indians tried it on Loop road that is a state road and the state shut them down. I understand the circumstances but I was thinking someone that has more knowledge than I could answer. It is simply just one of those.....Huh? questions. Quote
Moderator Posted May 27, 2020 Report Posted May 27, 2020 In a declared State of Emergency, the County Govt. can make executive orders for just about anything. They are however, subject to legal challenges. I don't know the legal basis, or any of the Case Law. I do not know exactly why Monroe County did the roadblock. What i heard was.. It was the possibility of many people fleeing the sickness and bringing the problem to the Keys. The ICU beds of their few hospitals would be overwhelmed and preventable deaths would occur. I think other cities experienced this type of influx. Our Governor closed all Vacation Rentals and hotels as soon as they learned that people were coming to Florida sick and spreading the virus here. Did they overreact based upon the models ? When all the data comes in, we will know better. One thing is for certain; we will deal with the next pandemic differently, and immediately. Politics not welcome here.. Mod Marc Quote
