Capt_Rob
Good afternoon everyone, We have a 2018 140 HP Suzuki on our 1806 Pathfinder. We took her offshore the other day, and when we came in and went to flush the engine with a hose, we noticed it was not peeing AT ALL. For all we know, it could have been not peeing all day, yet no signs of overheating. I looked everywhere online and the general consensus seemed to be that there was a clog of some sort. So we took the engine apart, ran an air compressor through the hose where this water flows, and now water will pee when the engine is in gear, but still will NOT pee in neutral. We are dumbfounded at this point. Again, there are still no signs of overheating and water IS flowing while in gear, so impeller, water pump, etc appear to be working- is there something I'm missing here? Is it perhaps still clogged? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! We want to get out on the water but we do not want to risk breaking our new engine. Thank you!! johnd
you were offshore, so this may not help.. but i often ran skinny and mud, shells, etc would clog line.

Hey John, Thanks for the reply. This actually does help, since we did run through some weeds (sargassum weeds) due to poor viz. So you're thinking this sounds like a clog rather than a broken component in the engine?
Yes-dear
Take a piece of heavy mono 80- 100 lb and pass through the pee hole and see if it unclogs while on the hose

Sorry, I forgot to mention- we already blew an air compressor through the pee hole and used weed trimming line to try to unclog. After using the air compressor the engine then started to piss when in gear- but still nothing in neutral.
HoneyB
I would try to submerge the foot and run engine. Rev it up good and try to clear it. The impeller will pump harder submerged than on a hose. I guess the other question is when you say, on the hose are you talking about with muffs on the foot or a connection on the motor. If you do not have muffs on the foot your likely not building enough pressure in the system at idle.

This is the absolute strangest thing I've ever seen. When I say hose, I mean to the connector on the engine where you can directly plug in the hose. We have also tried ear muffs and had the same issue. So now it will pee in gear, and in neutral, but not while off.
HoneyB
I dunno man try blowing air in the tell tell hose while running water from the hoes end.. you might be pushing something around.

Hey Quest4reds, when flushing the engine typically you raise out of the saltwater, connect the hose and let the water run- all while the engine is off. I know some people let is sit in neutral while flushing, but we've always done so with the engine off and water would exit the pee hole on the engine. The problem is, now it is not. I am assuming this works for motors that have the flush port, which my motor does not have. I use the muffs so my motor must be running for it to pee. Thanks for the clarification and hopefully you can get your peeing issue fixed.
Wanaflatsfish
I flush my engine in a 90 gallon rubber maid horse watering tub. Works great....i run it for 15-20 minutes sometimes while I'm cleaning the skiff after a day on the water. this allows the thermostats to open and I run it sometimes with either a gallon of vinegar or salt out from WM. Chief5130
I just had the same issue. I tried the mono, compressed air, none worked. I replaced the water pump, still not peeing. So I had to take the feed tube apart in the cowling and working the feed line in both directions and that fixed it.
Guest DavidG
Just my opinion but Chief5130 is spot on. You might have just a small amount of debris in the system and using air pressure as well as water pressure will not push it out but will “ go around” the debris. ( same as a bowel obstruction ). Find some mono or weed eater line that matches the interior diameter. Keep pushing as well as marking the depth with a permo marker that the mono or weed eater Stops at. As well put a small angled cut in the line your pushing as it might “ hook” the debris. You’ll find your debris there...David. Keep us posted! smilemaker
as said keep working at it but if all you do is push the obstruction back in the motor it will just clog again that is why you need to disconnect the tubing at the motor and push the clog out. unfortunately many designs of pee hole connections create a dead end that collects debry easily rather than it getting washed out the larger exit.
