Chitwood21MA
I'm having problems holding bottom whenever I am running over 20mph- Any tips? Does the ducer need to be adjusted? I pretty much run Factory settings, Tweaked a few things (Color Gain is -8, Gain is Auto High or Medium depending) This is a factory installed Garmin 8612xsv w/Airmar B60 thru hull under the batteries. smilemaker
welcome to step hull boats. the factory installed transducer should be in the correct position. I would think as you gain speed the transducer is getting airrated. try using the trim tabs to put the bow down and see how it does.

I've tried that and still lose bottom around 20, Talked to a Tech today and he told me to check & see if there is a lip or sharp edge on the front of it that may be causing turbulence. FINCHASER
Something is not right there.... unless running in the rough pretty stuff chop thats about the only time I see issues with mine (B75) it will get broken up due to the aeration of running thru the chop. 1st thing Id check is make sure its running on the 200 freq... Im not familair with capability of that ducer or unit but on mine its much more prone to lose bottom if on CHIRP vs 200khz.... the 200 does much better at bottom read at speed. So check and see if freq is selectable on that one. Id guess worst case scenario its a bad ducer, wrong degree tilt or installed with the tilt in the wrong orientation
SCFD rtrd.
Take a look at the top of the transducer. There is a red arrow that should point toward the keel and has the words "toward keel" stamped on top of the transducer. The degree of tilt should also be stamped in red letters. Also, look at how the transducer is mounted to the hull. It should fit tight and smooth. I have an Airmar B60 on my 23 HPS and it will read perfectly at 60 mph if the water is calm and smooth. In choppy water the picture comes and goes. Is the transducer mounted forward to the steps?
Tall Tails
Any air, whatsoever, once under that transducer does not clear out easily. The only way I find to fix it is to run tabs all the way down then back up while at speed. That usually does it. If it's choppy Its not going to work well at speed. Period.
