Hey guys, I am about to go purchase a 2000 MA 18.5. I am in new to the MBG family so I am hoping some people can possible let me know for anything specific to look for while checking the boat out.

The motor is a 2000 Yamaha 150Vmax EFI

Owner has kept up on maintenance religiously and boat from pictures looks very very clean.

Really just want anything to keep an eye out for.

Not sure about the boat other than looking for cracks that are more than surface stress cracks.  Look at the wiring in the console and aft access areas for corrosion.

I would spend some time looking at the motor and steering.  Assuming it is Sea Star Hydraulic, look at the shaft that goes through the ram at the motor to be sure it is smooth, look for leaks in the seals where they meet the shaft.  if there is any dark staining in the splash well that is a sign of a leaking steering.  Look at the tilting rams on the motor for leaks.  That age should have had them replaced by now normally.  Check the oil in the lower unit for water.  It should not be milky.  Get a compression check if you cannot do it.  All of them should be close to the same PSI.  I believe ~10 PSI difference is good.  Have the boat run, as in test ride before you check all of the above.

Not sure how many hours are on the motor, but I know on the used market it is worth ~ $3 - $3.5K in the market here in the VA NC area with ~ 1000 hrs.

Hope it is good and you get a nice ride.

For $250-300 get  a marine survey and as mentioned above, get a good check on the motor - compression, etc.

Also, don't forget the trailer - make sure it's in good shape (axel and bunks) or you'll be putting out a few thousand quickly....

Drew, take a look at the 2000 MA sticky in this forum, but if you are buying the one I think you are (teal), that owner and I speak often.  I know he has taken great care of that boat and has spared no expense on it.    As always, do your research, understand that it is a 20 year old boat, but if you are buying Chris' boat, I think you are headed in a good direction.   Happy to talk if you would like!
