Lvnspeed
realized I posted this in the wrong section so I deleted it and moved it. oooops newbie! I picked up this 1987 Hewes bonefisher (thanks Skip for correcting me) the other day. It needs stringers, transom, and the underside of the deck redone. My plan is to redo all the areas that are rotten. Add a livewell. Redo the center console (it looks like swiss cheese). Paint the bottom, hull sides, and the deck. I have a ton of questions on things I am hoping you guys can help with. Ill keep posting progress At some point in this boats life someone raised the rear and forward decks to be flush with the gunnels. I am glad they did so I dont have to do it was considering putting a scupper valve for the drain from the floor through the transom any reason I shouldn't? Like the ping pong ball version. Lvnspeed
Should I make the location in the rear for the livewell or build something in front of the console?
Lap it Up
I would make the center hole in the rear deck a livewell. I would still add a seating area to the front of the console and move all batteries to that location. Should help with CG and draft at rest.
MuddyBottomBluz
I did both on my "89" and made the front seat a re-circ well/cooler. That way If I picked up live bait at the store I had a place to put them and just put a portable re-circ pump in it while heading to the ramp. Baits rode best in the rear and did not get a beat up. I will see if I can find some pictures.
Lvnspeed
started on the stringers. Added the cross braces that weren't there before. If it helps or hurts anything i don't know but its making it easier to get everything to line up correctly now. Also stated making the transom it will be 1.5" thick and the center where the motor bolts it will be 2" thick. My thinking on this it should help spread the weight of the the new 4stoke motors better. Also I'm not sure what size motor I'm going to go with so a little over kill in this area couldn't hurt. Out of some of the scrap I plan to make the deck supports like that were there before. I added my own take on them by adding rod holders to them. I am going to wait to final fit them until the floor is in.
Lvnspeed
Can anyone with a 16' Bonefisher of similar year tell me the distance from console to the rear deck or the rear of the transom? I want to put a pipe in to run wires through and maybe run livewell hoses before I put the flor on.
slyshon
FYI, not a Bayfisher, the BF series started in 1993. I believe that to be a 16 Hewes Bonefisher. Skip

Lvnspeed
the poling platform frame was rough looking. So, I sanded it and bought some Rhino Liner and sprayed it. I think it came out pretty good. I plan to paint the top to match the hull sides (light grey is the color I am thinking or using). Making progress slowly. TURN ME LOOSE
I gotta wonder how quick she was with that 175.
Lvnspeed
Been sidetracked lately...... I found a deal for a 2001 Wellcraft 32' (32'long 10' wide) Scarab Sport. So I pulled my 2) 2015 Mercury 300 Veados off my 1988 Wellcraft 30' (29'long 8' wide boat was just to narrow) Scarab Sport and put the engines off the newer boat on there, 2001 Mercury 250 2 smoke EFIS and sold my old boat (did pretty good on it for an older boat with 2 smokes on it). Then rerigged the new boat with the 300s and had to do a bunch of rewiring but it's done, and man is this new boat SWEET! Now I am back on the Hewes. I found a good deal on a 2019 Mercury 60HP command thrust Outboard. I bought all new cables throttle and a SC1000 multi gauge. The fuel tank has been PSI tested and no issues there. I sanded it and painted it with RHINO LINER bedliner material. Only issue I might have is getting a fuel fill to work but Ill figure that out later (its due to the previous owner raising deck flush. I like it but its just not enough room to make most of the traditial fuel caps work) . All the fiberglass work is done (I hope ) and I have started fairing and sanding the entire boat. Hopefully Ill get some good weather next week and I can paint the boat. fingers crossed I can get this done in the next month or so! Still undecided on side console or center console. When I built the rigging tubes I placed them, so I move the console to either location. I just need to make sure I leave a little extra slack in the wiring and cables. More pictures of the Hewes coming soon.
Lvnspeed
Starting painting some of the pieces (BTW I *** at body work!). I have been Rolling and tipping the paint. I am surprised it actually laying out pretty nice. it takes 4 coats to get it to lay out. Hopefully the rest comes out as good. Working on the hatches next. Lvnspeed
Since I am waiting on some paint supplies, I decided to start putting the console together. I'll be running a 2019 Mercury Command Thrust 60hp. I painted the center of the wheel grey to match the boat after I took these pictures. Still trying to decide on side console over center console. TURN ME LOOSE
Side console vs center will pretty much depend on how often you plan to fish alone or take others with you.
Lvnspeed
id say 75% alone
TURN ME LOOSE
Then I'd personally go with the center. Keep the balance when you're riding instead of trying to balance it out with tabs.
Lvnspeed
that was my thought too, but there is so much more room with the console off to the side.
Lap it Up
My vote is side console. I owned a 19’ Hoog with the console off to the side. So much more usable space. I also didn’t notice a whole lot of lean when driving alone. Hoog is very similar to the old Hewes lappys.
