croakersmoker
I just repowered my bayfisher 16 with a SHO 90HP and it looks amazing. I went to install a Baystar steering kit and found that it didn't fit in the splashwell. I have read a few warnings about this not fitting, but also saw some saying it would fit (which is why I tried). I made a post looking for help on the Lappy Nation Facebook page. A guy claiming to have worked at Maverick back in the day said they would install the side mount hydraulic steering on these boats if people didn't want mechanical. He recommended part HC5370-3 from Dometic (Baystar). Does anyone have this setup on their boat? I'm hoping for a few testimonials. The picture clearly shows my issue. The port steering arm hits the splashwell wall before I can screw the starboard arm into the motor's steering tube.
Lap it Up
Will it clear if you raise the motor a bolt hole or two?
croakersmoker
Not quite. It’s a pretty bad design
Lap it Up
4” setback jackplate and it will work.
croakersmoker
Just to put a pin in the original topic, the Side mount hydraulic steering ram will not fit on the boat without a setback plate.
