flatsfisher772
Motor Guide xi5 with pinpoint gps VS Minn Kota with iPilot? Pros, cons, personal experience or opinions? From what I hear the Motor Guide has much better spot lock technology than the Minn Kota. The Minn Kota has a better remote because it has a screen on it. Im leaning towards the Motor Guide at this point. Also, what LB thrust/ volt combo would you put on a 16 foot Hewes Redfisher?
CaptDavis
I have had both. Call me and I'll give you my 2.5 cents. 772-532-6174
Zfactor
Have also had both. As you previously mentioned the minnkota's remote with display sure is nice and I sure do miss it but the motorguide xi5 is not only significantly quieter, deploys and stows easier the spot lock is far superior. The jog feature is like no other. Lastly, not sure why they don't supply it with the 3 blade wheel for what they charge you for the motor but do yourself a huge favor and make sure you get it. Far superior!
hurricane
Do you really think the 3 blade is that much better? Is this one you have? http://www.b***pro.com/MotorGuide-Machete-III-3Blade-Prop-Kit/product/74182/
had
I've had both. Minnkota is my fav but quality in both was lacking. I didn't think the remote would be that big a deal but it is to me.
Zfactor
I do yes. It has better grip, smoother and faster. I can only vouch for the Machete 3 tour prop. Very satisfied.
hurricane
Cool, I'm try it. But, now I'm left wondering the difference between the tour and not tour prop?
Mitz
3 blade is smoother and I can tell you the xi5 is a lot quieter and far better spot lock. My buddy had a new xi5 on his ranger when we were in the keys and that's going on the next boat.
flatsfisher772
So I'm thinking I'm going to go with the 24v 80lb thrust. What about shaft length? They've got 48" or 60"
Wanaflatsfish
So I'm thinking I'm going to go with the 24v 80lb thrust. What about shaft length? They've got 48" or 60" go longer...you can always take it to a certified dealer and have it cut down to any length. dc
throwitback
what about the Rhodan?
flatsfisher772
I think I've finally settled on the xi5 24v 80lb thrust 60" shaft. If anyone has any last minute input feel free to share!
hurricane
If you plan to install with a quick release mount, you may find the forward set of bolts to far forward. It was that way for me on my MA. To solve this, I had to rotate the mount 180, and redrill to fit TM. The mount bolts are not centered in the mount, so by rotating it they land farther back inside the boat.
