hurricane
Anyone ever have success removing old decals from the cowling. I tried heat and a plastic scraper, left residue. So tried Goof off, which is acetone. Acetone removes paint. So any other ideas.
redzone1
I have used the 3M wheel on a drill on a Yamaha cowling with great success.
mulligan
I have always used heat and scrapper and then Turtle Wax sticker remover for the residue. Never tried the wheel but sounds like it might be less elbow grease.
Marathon Man
Redzone1 uses what has worked for me, I think it is way easier and less destructive than other methods that I have used.
hurricane
I'd this what you guys are talking about? http://www.nationaltoolwarehouse.com/Stripe-Off-Wheel-07498-4-x-58-P2391.aspx?zmam=31282435&zmas=50&zmac=750&zmap=3M7498&gclid=Cj0KEQjwlLm3BRDjnML3h9ic_vkBEiQABa5oeTLPfDNqQd0K9umqL10Xb08xwSEAE0F2i-koQwvS6KwaAith8P8HAQ
LittleChief
That's it. I used the same thing on my cowling and it worked great.
jason p
WD40 is excellent at removing sticker residue. Try it before you spend money on anything else, and it won't be absorbed into your liver.
hurricane
I have used wd-40 on decals before and it does work. Forgot to mention in my original post, that I tried that too. Gonna try the wheel, just can't stand these faded decals anymore......
Dale Nelson
When I removed mine it left a darker ghosting behind the sticker- actually looks kind of neat.
hurricane
The 3m wheel worked pretty good, it took the sticker off the best they would come off. However, it did burn the paint on the plastic insert on the top backside near the louvers. Oh well, nothing a new sticker won't cover. Thanks for the tip.... FSJim
3M wheel for sure. Works like a charm.
Grant
I used WD-40 and a razor blade. Came off quick and clean. I was patient and had no scratches from the razor. Re-applying the new decal was trickier. Getting everything lined up as close as possible was stressful since you only have one shot at getting it right. Ended up working out well. hurricane
Oh ya..... like $100 for set. The big ones on the side are staying on, they look ok. Only ordered one to cover the spot that got messed up. Small sticker on the top back, was still $10.
