MrClownShoes
I got a 92 lappy with a pretty long crack in one of the port side chines. Looking for some advice on how to go about fixing it. I ground down the crack and as you can see it went all the way through. Not sure if I need to cut out the floor as well and glass from both side? The first few pics were a temporary fix for a trip to the keys, you can see the weeping and staining from the crack.
MuddyBottomBluz
Every where there is a chine/strake there should be a stringer, so yes I would investigate further. If the stringer is loose any repair you make on the outside would keep popping. How does the floor feel in that particular area?
MrClownShoes
Floor feels fine no soft spots not popping sounds.
MuddyBottomBluz
Then I would find a good glass guy and see what they say. For a repair like this though it should be done from the inside AND outside. Just a thought, is the trailer bunks okay and not bouncing the boat, etc.? Still should find out why it happened unless it was an impact while running by you or the previous owner?!
MrClownShoes
Bunks on the trailer are solid. My neighbor has the same boat but a year newer and he has the same crack as I do. He to it to a glass guy in town and they only fixed it from the outside. I’m not really confident that’s the best way to go about it. I’m wondering if this is a common problem on the 90s Lappy??? This is what it looked like before I did anything to it.
