Jconce
Im interested in purchasing a Hewes 16' and wanted to see if anyone can comment on how it rides, also how wet is it? New model vs older model? Worried its going to beat me up too much with a light chop since its only 16'.
geeviam
I had a 2017 Redfisher 16 with a 115 SHO, and enjoyed it. It felt like a bigger boat than it was. The ride was good, the stability at rest was amazing - you could walk the gunwales and it would barely move. If I was in the market for a Redfisher 16 now, I would take a serious look at the new model (new design since 2021). The new Redfisher 16 is about the same length and beam but has more deadrise (now 15 degree instead of 13 degree), a sharper forward "V" entry with flared bow like a Maverick Master Angler, a smaller and better design transom pocket at the stern, and a pad or "ski" on the keel. All these things add up to softer ride, dryer ride, better lift, faster top speed, better fuel economy, and less porpoising. Add to that much more forward storage because the fuel tank is below the floor and you have a great flats boat that will easily fit straight into almost any standard-size garage. One more thing, the new RF 16 is now contructed with VARIS (Vacuum Assisted Resin Infusion) which greatly improves hull, floor, and cap strength while at the same time reducing the overall net weight of the boat. I haven't measured the draft on the new RF 16, but I believe it will not draft any more than the previous model RF 16 because it has the pad on the keel, smaller pocket, and it's made more lightweight with VARIS. Jconce
Thanks for the info. What about the Jackplate should I get one?

I would not put one on a new RF 16 to start with - wait and see how it performs without one first. If you decide you need one later, you could get a Bob's JP or the amazing new HMP 4" JP: https://photos.app.goo.gl/KZU8RKfU4SfeCKG69 https://www.instagram.com/hullmarineproducts/
