wrhatt
I'm looking for ideas on how to mount this boarding ladder on the left rear side of the transom. The lag bolts that came with the ladder pulled out when a friend tried using the ladder with his scuba gear on. I'm thinking through bolts with nuts and washers is preferred but the left rear compartment has a liner blocking access to the inside of the transom. Any suggestions on the best way to mount it? SCFD rtrd.
I would cut a big hole in the liner, but leave enough flat surface on all sides of the liner to mount a piece of starboard or PVC board to cover the hole. Additionally, on the top bolts of the platform, I'd install a solid piece of backing (stainless or aluminum) on the inside of the transom. Seal all bolts inside and out with Boat Life caulking.
wrhatt
I was afraid of that. I really hate cutting or drilling in the boat but don't see another way to do it.
jim33042
Maybe use a smaller diameter hole saw, say 4 1/2" that will allow you to get access and use a socket wrench to reach out to the thru bolt corners ? Easier to place an access deck plate over the small hole than have to use a large piece of starboard.
smilemaker
Drill a pilot hole from the outside using a long bit all the way through the livewell. Use a hole saw just big enough for a large washer and socket wrench to drill hole in livewell. Save the fiberglass plug. Install platform. Using the fiberglass cut out use a piece of cardboard or plastic with a string tied in the middle. Run the string through the cutout piece. Mix up some thickened epoxy and cover the cardboard work it in the whole and push cutout into place as you pull the string and cardboard from the back. Tie it off to stay in place. After it sets cut the string and finsh the neat circle with gel coat.
Miss Jazzy
Cut a hole then add this deck plate https://www.amazon.com/BBH-Marine-Round-Non-Slip-Plates/dp/B09DS25T7Y/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?keywords=deck+plates+for+boats&qid=1672794188&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExS0VWR1VXWVg5VFYwJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMzExMjI3MzNKMEFWWEg2QUhZTyZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUExMDA1Njc1WEdONkZEOURBTFhTJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ== then you can have access for repair if needed.
Bamaskeet
Before I cut a hole thru the liner, I would slightly enlarge the existing lag bolt holes and epoxy a dowel in the hole and relag the ladder to the transom. Many people have not had a problem with a lag bolted ladder in that spot.
redzone1
I did exactly what Miss Jazzy said on an old 2200v I had years ago.

When I installed a boarding ladder on my 22 Pathy, I did the same using the pie hole. Otherwise you have to hire a small monkey to hold the nuts and washers. Use liberal amounts of 5200 on the screws and nuts, not the Pie Hole DC
