johnd
Lots of water in bilge other day. Today put in, found water running in under the inner liner, transom. Thinking thru bolts that hold engine? Can't see the leak.. Any thoughts? Removed starboard lower engine mounting bolt. Dried white material (RTV?, silicone? 4200?) came out. Filled hole with 4200, re installed bolt (with head outboard, threads inboard as I read on line. Asked neighbor who is certified marine mechanic, he said yes that is spec, but can't always do that way.). Water tested this am, the leaked 99% stopped. Just dunked, have not run yet) I'm a little upset in that dealer installed this engine maybe 4 years ago. Bolts backward (per engine mfg specs) and whatever they used should not have dried out. Freeplete
Check your live well pump housings. Mine froze a couple of years ago and cracked. Didn't notice it until I opened the ball valve while on the water.
Lap it Up
Check your high speed pickups for live wells. Sealant gets old and brittle and the eventually leak. Happened to my boat. And if you have the old rule pumps they are known to crack and leak. I've had that happen also.
