Wanaflatsfish
Spent the weekend with a buddy who has a house over in Key Largo.. Saturday, we ran over to flamingo in the skinny mini... Ran the top run across the crocodile drag over and into bouy key and then on to Flamingo to refuel.... On the way over...stopped at Crocodile key, deleric key and saw nothing moving..no life All we saw where schools of barracudas - like 100 at a time very small.... Made our way out to Murray and oyster and nada...fished the p*** as the tide was going down quickly and a few trout and jacks and cats.... put the TM down and ran up into Jimmy lake and nada.....went aobut 1/2 mile in and only saw a few small puffs as blow-outs. Tough day on the water....but, what was remarkable was the amount of dead gr*** upon the bites....we stopped into Maderia and same thing... My friend had never seen flamingo and the birds and general wildlife were worth the ride....38 miles each way...90 miles total for the day....the skinny mini ran great ! A little bumpy on the return...but, she holds steady at 24 mph..... Any reports ? DC
Big Dave
Mike and I had a tough day in the wind on Saturday, but we had some fun on one of the bights. I tossed a soft plastic to a huge laid up snook, she took off, jumped twice, circled back towards the boat and then broke me off on the stern. I thought Mike was going to fall off the poling platform! It was fun!

jason p
You should have seen it in the fall / winter! I quit fishing the Northern/North-eastern area of Florida Bay in November-ish, the gr*** was so thick you had to stop every couple minutes to clear it off the motor. In a small tiller boat , forget about it. For sight fishing the water clears up moving south, Palm Lake still has a lot of gr*** and farther down towards Man-o-War key area. Out-going tides tends to clear the water up a little as well. We only fish the bay for tarpon now, and they're acting weird according to long-time residents down here so who knows. Snook, reds, etc... I'm on the inside. As far as the gr*** die-off goes, do yourself a favor and don't even try to research or read-up on it. It's maddening. Until Trump builds a wall from Sarasota to Ft. Pierce and moves everyone south of Lake Okeechobee out (except me of course ), its going to remain pretty much the same or get worse in my opinion. Oh wait, turning 40% of Florida Bay into a poll/troll zone will also bring the fresh watershed back down to Everglades and restore the eco-system back to normal. conocean
Over the past 25 years of fishing FL Bay from the Keys and Flamingo I've seen plenty of dead seagr***. It has come and gone. Bottom line is that FL Bay has been choked off thru the years and it needs a lot more water flowing into it through the sloughs. Not much change will happen until a few miles of Hwy 41 is lifted in 5-6yrs. All things that live in south FL will benefit from increased water flow into FL Bay. But increased water flow doesn't mean we won't find dead seagr*** from time to time due to other environmental factors.
