Wanaflatsfish
After several trips of NO FEEESSSSH...we finally got back in da game.... While not stellar, we did hit two nice reds and 1/2 doz snooklets.....and when we got back to the docks...the report from Ranger John was that we outfished most everyone....even a few of the local guides....(not mentioning any names ) Fished the incoming tide and took the Skinny Mini further South to our old haunts..... While there not many of our normal friends at our "old spots"....we did find some action... As usual, Popping Corks and jigs were the bait of choice for me, and Capt Don grabbed his red on a lady feesh chunk.... We fished the incoming, and what an incoming it was...5 foot tide, pushed in very fast by a NW wind....The tide at the docks in Chokoloskee had the water 6-8 inches over the wood...we quit fishing and headed home at 230 pm as I figured the outgoing was going to take a while with the wind.......high tide was 2pm.....and as mentioned, it was a monster.... We ran all the down to the Lostman's Wood Key areas and many of the bights in between..... The Skinny Mini ran great - over 50+ miles without a flaw....we ran the low, and while she is a bit heavy, she still runs in the best of skinny....we were running across a few of the bights on the dead low running in front the Chatham behind Morman Key, and let's put it this way....the shark fins were sticking out of the water as we ran by, and South of New Turkey coming out of a pass into the bights heading south so I could avoid the rougher outside route...down could reach down and grab mud if he wanted to do so We found the fish up tight as the tide came in so fast that I mis judged....but, precision casting did it for me....and Don was the Chunk King once the tide came up on the bars.... We were at one spot where i said, "Just Throw a Chunk up on the shore", as I worked the front, bingo whamooo - up comes his first night red for the past few trips.... Great time with my buddy.....here's a pics of our friends who came home for dinner with us..... ] And at the docks....our friends are always waiting for a hand out....I had a few moments and grabbed the camera for a few shots.... Brent B
Awesome work! Glad to hear your back on top. I pulled 3 reds last trip about 3 weeks ago and that was the better of the past 4 trips. It was a rough beginning of the year! Heading out this Sunday to slay down by Turkey. Although my Redfisher is not the skinny boat of choice i'm gonna try and squeeze in on some of these bights on the high tide!
