THE OUTLAW Posted December 1, 2024 Report Posted December 1, 2024 I had to upgrade my tent , and really wanted to try to find one , with the nice 8’x8’ footprint , but would also allow me to be able to stand up in . Getting old had its disadvantages. So I settled with a new Eureka Copper Canyon X4. I had been using Eureka for over 25 years , sonI was not concerned with the brand . But , it is a tall sum b—h 7’. Has anyone been or is going to a cheekie soon and can give me a real number , on the height , form the deck to the roof frames? Hoping this critter is going to fit . 🇺🇸🏴☠️ Quote
lemaymiami Posted December 2, 2024 Report Posted December 2, 2024 Should fit, no problem... The next time I'm booked out of Flamingo I'll bring a tape measure and verify... Those chickees are very handy when there's a lady on board that needs a toilet.... The Park does keep them clean and properly stocked. Speaking about that, if you're planning on using a chickee, when you make your reservations you might want to have them state whether the Graveyard Creek on the ground campsite is still on their list. A week or two ago we stopped there (as usual for a porta-pottie) and found that there wasn't one there at all... Quote
THE OUTLAW Posted December 2, 2024 Author Report Posted December 2, 2024 Somehow I knew , you would be the person , to help me out . Thank you 🇺🇸🏴☠️ Quote
lemaymiami Posted December 17, 2024 Report Posted December 17, 2024 Checked the Oyster Bay chickee yesterday.... and found that the three rafters are only 6' 8" off the deck - but in-between them - the roof appears to have about an 8' clearance (and with only the three rafters there would certainly be space for that 7' tall tent in between them... I was surprised when I measured those rafters (big 2x6 timbers, spaced so that two of them are on the outside edge and only one in the center of the deck space...) - I thought they were much higher than that until I laid a seven foot long spinning rod next to one of the roof supports for some rude measuring... Who knew? 1 Quote

rubble Posted December 22, 2024 Report Posted December 22, 2024 I think you will be fine as well. Just for scale, I believe the Port-a-Library will almost fit under the high point of the roof line without a problem and will likely fit at the low point. As Bob mentioned, the structural cross members that support the roof rafters have a span of about 5-6 feet so you have another 6 to 8 inches to work with. This is Rogers. Guessing all are fairly similar. Go catch ‘em!!! Quote
rubble Posted December 22, 2024 Report Posted December 22, 2024 Another look from the side shows those structural members look like 2x8s but may be 2x10s. The tent and the cooking counter is about 3’ high. Going to guess about 4’ between the structural beams. There’s a water tote next to the cooking station. Could scale that all the way up but I think your tent will at least work under the front/high section. Quote
lemaymiami Posted December 24, 2024 Report Posted December 24, 2024 Just nothing like the 'glades. Yesterday out of Chokoloskee I kept a 23" redfish for the table, while we were doing a bit of "fun fishing"... Yesterday's fish, tonight's dinner for two.. 3 Quote
