Agitator Posted January 9 Report Posted January 9 I repowered my '02 2300DV from twin F150's to a single F250. With twins, the transdeucer was/is a thru-hull, flush mounted Airmar located on the centerline of the hull. I need to mount a new transdeucer for new electronics and wanted some guidance before I start drilling holes in the transom. Any suggestions? 1 Quote
Kitchwiz Posted January 10 Report Posted January 10 Do you have any other transducers? I would just mount like normal on the right side with its belly just in the wash . Dont mount out of the constant water or you will have issued with high speed readings. Quote
Moderator Posted January 10 Report Posted January 10 Welcome Ag ! have you run the boat with the thru hull and had any cavitation ? With the bracket plus the distance to the puck it may work okay.. Maybe you can fair the transducer more around the base, and help. Perhaps a 4blade prop would negate any cavitation ? It is a big deal to fill in A thru hull hole.. I never put one on this DV.. Agitator Posted January 11 Author Report Posted January 11 The original Airmar produces the very best sonar images of any I have ever owned or seen at speed. For perspective, I go back to the flashers and paper recorders era. I intend to keep it and run one of the new colorscopes with it. The other scope, I want to take advantage of newer technology (side scope, etc.), hence the need to mount a new transom mount transdeucer. Right now she has no screw holes in the transom so I want to be sure I add no more than necessary. Quote
George Seither Posted January 11 Report Posted January 11 A few questions, do you have a jack plate? If so there are transducer mounts for jack plates, have you considered a transducer mount plate if you have to move the transducer? https://rytekmarine.com/products/heavy-duty-transducer-mounting-boards Quote
Moderator Posted January 11 Report Posted January 11 The new transducers and fish finders are just amazing.. Leave the thru hull there. Do you like the DV better with the single ? Post up some pics, please. I am in SE Fla. Marc 1 Quote
Agitator Posted January 11 Author Report Posted January 11 No jack plate. May add one later if the creek I live on gets shallower. The original transdeucer is staying because 1. Way too much trouble to remove it and: 2. It works remarkably well. It is just limited to what was technologically possible in 2002. Originally, the boat was rigged with a single F225. The second owner repowered with twin F150's because he made long runs in the Gulf. I bought it in 2012 and ran that configuration until September 2024. Motors were 25" inch and mounted in the last hole and could not be raised any higher. Still too low and as a result way too much drag so slower than you would expect. Also too much weight on the transom. Scuppers were under water and as a result, the deck was wet continuously. I have not run the boat with the new F250 yet since I'm in the process of a complete refit. All new wiring, circuit breakers, switches, lights, pumps, and electronics. Quote
Moderator Posted Monday at 08:23 PM Report Posted Monday at 08:23 PM Aw, that’s outstanding !! Congratulations ! You will truly have a new boats when she is done.. The rigging on the 150’s was critical, or they wouldn’t perform. Please keep us updated ! Marc Quote
