JEM
I think the cleats are TOO small. Trying to tie off a dock line and a fender to one cleat is just a pain. Does anyone agree, and if so, has anyone up sized the pop up's to 8 inch or 10 inch pop up cleats? Or am I just too hard to please?
bernieNC
How big a line are you using for the bumper? It doesn't need to be much. I do it all the time.
fin-addict
line on fenders may be too large and maybe taking too many wraps on docklines. have no problem with my cleats. I take 1 1/2 wraps on each line, very secure. never understand people taking wraps till there is no line left to do it. makes untying in an emergency very bad, does not make boat any more secure. jmo, fin
Bamaskeet
There is enough room for two 3/8" ropes on each cleat although it's a little tight. If you go with 3/8" soft braid, you will gain a little room and you can also go with 1/4" or 5/16" line for the fenders. installing new cleats properly, will not be easy. Ron in Atlanta
I agree on the "too small a cleat" question. For what it's worth, here's how we deal with it. First, we attach the fender to the cleat in the normal way. Next, we insert the end of the dock line through the center of the cleat (under the fender line) and tie a quick bowline. Now the dock line does not use any of the precious space on the cleat and I've never had a bowline slip.
