gmc22
Hey guys. I'm looking to install a trolling motor on my 2013 TRS. It is pre wired already so my question is how hard will it be to install it myself? Or should I take it to a professional. I see the battery connections in the center console. Is it as simple as connecting those to batteries to have power for the trolling motor?
Fish Food
It is not too difficult, but it does require planning and several tools. First, you just need to make sure that the TM has the same plug that fits the installed receptacle and set up your batteries correctly as well as install them correctly(tie downs or battery boxes). Next, choose good, dual purpose or deep cycle batteries. I recommend AGMs for this purpose group 27 or 31 depending on how much/long power you need. If not provided, you will need jumpers between batteries-make sure they are properly sized(size 6 gauge, if I remember correctly, but don't quote me on that one). Make sure you have covers for all terminals or in battery boxes. So, there are a few things to consider/know to make it done correctly. Oh, makes sure you connect all of your battery charger terminals correctly, should be labeled in your user manual. Also, do you need to install the actual motor itself? That is a little more tricky, I think. You need to lay it out to find the best spot and measure 3 times and drill once. Make sure you get good hardware and/or a quick release mount. Is this a 22 or 24? Are you going to get a 24V or 36V? You should be able to find online a battery set up drawing to help you out. If this all sounds too daunting, hire a pro or a friend who's been there to help. Good luck!
SCFD rtrd.
Like Fish Food said, it's not difficult if you have done it before and have some electrical skills. From reading your post, it seems that you have no previous experience with installing a trolling motor, batteries, wiring, braker and charger. Where are you located? Maybe some forum member is willing to help and do it right the first time. The last thing you want is multiple holes in your boat and an unsafe wiring system. gasparilla
All I can offer is don't throw away the template on accident, and I'll second "measure 3x cut 1" . . . Harder to do the nicer the boat is . . .
