Fishician
I am thinking about purchasing a cordless impact wrench to keep in my suv in the event of a blow out on my trailer? Do any of you carry one and if you do, what size do you recommend and what size attachment for the lug nuts? I have 13 inch rims Thanks for your help. You guys are great
DonV
Because I'm lazy, I carry a Ryobi impact driver....not to confuse, it's not an impact wrench. I bought it because I got it with another drill, charger and two batteries for like $100. It helped increase my Lithium Ion battery total to six, with another charger and another drill. Anyway, I break the nuts loose with a breaker bar and then finish backing the lug nuts off with the driver, then use it to drive the lug nuts back on and torque with the breaker bar. I'm not anywhere near "Capt. DeWalt's" price point so I continue adding to the Ryobi tools. I'll be interested on replies how much better a cordless impact wrench works, I could always add one of those to the collection.
FINCHASER
Heck yeah... best thing since sliced bread! makes changing a tire almost a pleasure, takes more time to jack up the truck or boat trlr than to remove the tires! I carry the Ingersoll Rand w7150... 1100 ft lbs of removal torque. At the time the IR outclassed anything else on the market... I think Milwaukee and Makita have one out now in the same class. Don't skimp here you want high removal torque and Lithium ion batteries. My exp with the IR has been awesome... have yet to find a nut it cant remove and battery life is excellent... Ive rotated my truck tires (8 lug) 3 times and removed the boat trailer tires several times on one charge and still had like 30% batt left. FunFlatsFishing
Definitely the way to go. Like DonV said. Use a breaker bar and spin the lug nuts off. Hardest part is definitely lifting the trailer.
Bamaskeet
I have a 18V Makita, it works great.
justdriftin
I have a dewalt cordless impact wrench. Not in the same class as the IR, had to look up spec and its only 1700 inch lbs of torque. But, I carry a breaker bar to bust them loose and just the cordless to spin on and off. Definitely throw it in the tool box when I'm headed out, just in case. I also have an adapter for it to use 1/4 inch driver bits so its a handy all around tool to have. Light but more juice than the typical power drill for driving screws and such. jason p
I got a 1/2" Ridgid , it's the business. They also have lifetime warranties on their power tools and BATTERIES, HALLELUJAH!!!
Craigs
Jason,. Not to get off topic, but be careful with that Rigid lifetime warranty. I was talking to the manager of the tool department at Home Depot and he said they offer that warranty on a lot, not all of Rigid tools but you must register the warranty with 30 days of purchase. He said less then 10% of all eligible tools get registered. Craig

I started switching over to Ridgid a couple years ago when we moved down here and remodeled the house and always register my stuff online as soon as walk through the door. Another thing I've noticed lately with the last couple tools is that I'll get an email a week or so after I register online stating "There was a problem registering your recent purchase and we need additional information, please mail the original receipt AND the SKU# off the box from your purchase so we can complete your lifetime service agreement registration." I think this is kinda dirty but whatever, save your box and receipt until you get a registration confirmation email.
Fishician
Thanks guys. I happen to have a Ridgid 18 Volt Drill with 2 batteries and charger. I think I will buy the Ridgid 18 volt Impact wrench so I should save $ since I already have the batteries and charger. Any Thoughts???
