all wet
2009 Yamaha 250Vmax 2-stroke all good until a couple weeks ago. Was 2 miles from the ramp heading to first fishing spot and the motor gets rough and goes into limp mode. Shut it down, then when I crank it up again I get the overheat warning and buzzer. Nothing clogging the intake, so I drift around and let it sit a bit. Crank it up and still get the overheat display and buzzer, but when I keep the key to the on position the display changes to "oil empty". So checking the main oil tank on board, all good, reservoir tank on the engine full. All seems good, but I'm not going to chance screwing something up good by running the engine back to the ramp. So trolling motor gets me back to ramp and load her up. Flush the engine using the flushing attachment back at the house, and get water through the pee hole. Next day I put the muffs on it and crank it, but it quits after a couple of seconds. No warnings or anything on the gauges, but it shuts down in a second or two each time it cranks over. All I can think of is some kind of bad sensor or something. Anybody experience anything like this?
Bamaskeet
I suggest you do a compression check and look at the lower unit oil, to eliminate the possibility of a serious problem.
linesider 159
Compression check, then look into replacing oil tank sender on motor.
all wet
Odd, just went to tilt up the engine to take to the shop and found the battery switch knob would just spin, no detant positions anymore. Now I'm wondering if it could be an electrical issue, like getting intermittent or low voltage to the gauges and sensors.
bdsnook
That sounds reasonable, I once had the center post around which everything is positioned just separated from the switch plate, releasing all pressure on the contacts...everything electrical would just come and go till I found it....
