Waz-in-Oz
Some of the staff at my work decided that we should all go on a fishing trip after me sending out emails showing some nice fish in photos which they are getting tired off of me having a too good a time onm weekends. We booked a reef trip which was a 24 hour trip leaving on Friday afternoon at 4 and returning Saturday at 4.30 pm. The boat was through Conquest Charters and was a 68 footer and travelled at about 12 knots so there was heaps of time for laying a bit of trash talk on the way out with some cold refreshments to boot. All meals were supplied like a roast dinner on Friday night and a cooked breakfast the next morning. Two deckies and a hostess were on board to look after 19 of us and we had the boat to ourselves. Rods and reels were supplied but you could take your own and seen they supply Tld 20s with mono I elected to fish braid on my own outfit. Squid, pilchards and some tuna were baitsa and we had a great time all bonding with some great fish caught. Some big sharks gave us some grief at the boat taking hooked fish but it was worth it to see some staff hooked up and have it taken and a 200 lb whaler engulf there fish and smoking there drags. Only two managed to stay up all night with most grabbing a few hours sleep - me after landing a few fish at our third spot for the night and then being smoked three times in a row on 80 lb braid and being wiped out by large sharks was enough for me at 1.00 am in the morning so I snuck off into the aircon for a kip for a few hours and returned at 4.00 am. Here are some of the photos I took of us catching a few and having a good time. Waz.
Waz-in-Oz
And some more shots. Did I mention there was quite a few ales consumed - in moderation of course. Everone enjoyed it so much they want to go again after winter around October so it looks like we may have a bi-annual event. snelly
Well I need to set the scene here. Cairns and Townsville are 4 hours apart by road and there has always been plenty of "banter" about which place is better. Since Waz has put up this post I guess I have to go one better ;-) A couple of weeks ago we were presented with a fairly rare opportunity of light winds in winter so I was not going to let it p***. We headed out about 5-00am and reached the sand Cay ( Key ) about 28nm by about 6-00am to have a coffee and watch the sunrise. After this we headed further out to fish and managed some good trout , plus Spanish ( King Mackerel ) and Red Throat Emperor. We had a good catch onboard by 11-30am so it was back to the Cay for Prawn and Avocado Rolls washed down by a nice Sav Blanc before heading for home. And the most important part - we did it in a Hewes

Capt. Troy
Nice fish, its funny how they look similar to many species that we have over here with just slight variations. I bet they taste just as good though.
