Have you considered a Raker prop? A forum member runs one and is very satisfied with the charateristics of the prop design.

Haven't thought about trying a raker. I thought it might slip too much out of the hole. We are playing with Vipers right now. We also need to raise the motor up a bit.

Well after a little over a 2 year project our Hewes is done except for the seat cushion. The boat tops out at 45mph and rides great. Here are some pic's.

This boat will hopefully be p***ed down from generation to generation. It's been a great ride with my son! Thanks to everyone for all the input. Catch em up!

I have followed this thread closely, very nice work by the way. I to thought the top end would be a little higher so I spoke to my brother-in-law who is a factory tech for Bombardier / E-tec and he said that motor is more in the mid 140's for H.P. But he also worked for Bob Hewes for MANY years and was his Chief mechanic and would test motor & prop combinations for the different hulls. He said the best you will probably get is 50 MPH out of that hull. He said that can be achieved by the obvious like correct motor hieght and propping. But he also said that a 4" set back for the motor would improve performance and handling ecspecially because of the bait boxes on the back. He said the hull is not designed for the higher speeds the Redfisher hull was designed for and has a slight hook in the bottom. We went through about 8 different props on my boat before settling for the BRP 4-blade 13 x 17 Rogue. It woke up my boat like you would'nt believe. Again great job and definetly something to be proud of and savor and enjoy all the great times and memories about to be made! :content:

We raised the motor 2-1/2" and are running a 16 pitch Viper prop. Topping out at 45 @5500 rpm. Did the 4 blade Rogue increase your top end? Our rear bait boxes are sealed so they add floatation but we din't want to put on a jack plate and move the motor back more becuase the boat already sits bow up.

The Rogue increased my top end, however some 3 blades were maybe 2-3 MPH's faster. But all around performance was well worth it, no blow outs on high speed turning, responsiveness, hole shot. Water use to break under my feet but now it breaks at the very back of the boat so less resistance in the water I top out at about 5900 RPM (tweaking the tabs & trim)on the motor. My GPS is broken so unable to tell ya exactly my top end speed but definetly aropund 43-45 fully loaded with full tank, trolling motor and batteries up front. The reason you are squatting now is because it looks like you are probably empty up front since I see no trolling motor but you still have the gas tank up there adding some wieght up front.
