Waz-in-Oz
The Tournament had a cold start with lots of people rugged up as 35 boats scatter to there spots. The shotgun start is always interesting and it is not a line up of sorts but more 35 boats sitting in a creek mouth at all different parts when the hooter sounds it is on. Very hard to take some photos as you can imagine as it is a bit like a washing machine and safety is paramount and there is a ***ortment of boats with smaller engines up to go fast boats which leave me behind. But fun it is and there is a few shots below of it. There were three Hewes's in this Tournament, my RF16, Parkesy's BF16 and Matho's RF19 which has a Optimax 175 on it which I have a few shots of. The run was choppy until we reached the calmer protected waters and then we could open up and go. We caught some good barra's over the two days and fished a variety of techniques from luring (think you guys call it crank baiting)the snags to drain and flats fishing. Some troll if you like that but I find it a bit boring but it does produce big fish though the cold water deemed to make this method non productive and we tended to find the fish up in the shallows where the water tempeture was 24 degrees. We used the side imaging on my new HDS 10 as we electric motored about 40 feet off mud banks and when we would mark several barras we would drop the Power Pole to hold us and throw our shallow running lures to the edge of the dirty water and work them back. Hooking good barras in this limited depth of water saw them hit the air with great speed and throw lures even with razor sharp three treble rigs. We landed 10 good fish on day two but we jumped off at least another 12 solidly hooked fish (me about 10 of those) with just one of them being well past the 20 points we need to secure 1st place - but hey thats Tournament fishing and why you get hooked on it. At one stage I was getting hooked up and jumping fish off at a rate of 4 to 1 and Ben couldn't raise a strike at the other end of the boat. His first time fishing with a power pole and he was wrapped on how we combined the ability to use both the Power Pole and the Lowrance Sounder to our advantage to get in the best position to get shots at fish by holding position and allowing us to concentrate working all parts of the bank while the boat held its position. Wanaflatsfish
What happemed to the lat line on those snook? Evolution my friend....evolution.. Obviously, the lateral line which detects various vibrations and other activities, is not needed down under in the cooler water......they do look similiar...
