Paid Up
I have not had to by a combo unit in over 10 years. I am looking at the Garmin 54cv and the 74cv. Any recommendations? Will be using in coastal waters and in shore fishing. Thanks in advance

fishmanjj
Go with the biggest unit that fits your budget and boat.... I went with the 94 sv and it was a tight fit with flush mount kit....if you go with Garmin....make an effort to get the G2 Blue Chart for your designated area. The difference in the detail of map is amazing. Here is pic of my 94 sv flush mounted. Keep an eye on Garmin outlet store on line....when they run a special it normally includes the G2 Blue Chart for free.

General disarray
Largest. I have a 74 and I can split screen when I am just referencing but for real use the screen real-estate only allows for 1 screen
Ron in Atlanta
Agree with everyone. Go with the biggest screen you can afford and fit. Here is my 2200 TRS with a 10 inch Garmin screen... I remember using RDF, Loran A, Loran C and all the NOAA charts I could fit on board to figure out where we were on a foggy Block Island Sound day. To me, the current marine GPS is a absolute miracle - go for it!
