tiburon8u
Hey folks I need help. I want to repower my 1992, Maverick 17. I am looking to put a 175 Suzuki. Is this ok with the weight of the engine.?
Nag Juice
She'll tote the mail with it for sure. I'd personally go with the 140-150 motor. It will cause less stress on a 25 year old transom.
tiburon8u
I was thinking the same but the 150 weighs the same as a 175.
FLDXT
I have a 99 17MA with a DF140, I wouldn't go any heavier. I wouldn't put a DF150 on mine
LittleChief
The hull is only rated for 130hp. You can push it with the 140hp but that's the maximum.
FLDXT
And that 130 rating was with a 2 stroke, I believe quite a bit lighter. You put a heavy 150 plus a full livewell, which is like abother big person, that is a ton of weight in the back of that boat. I'd be more concerned about weight then too much HP. From my reading, a lot of people seem to think the HP isn’t rated accurately and they are a good bit shy of a true 140. What year is yours? Mine is an 04, like I said in abother post, the older ones are geared low, you loSE some top end, but I spin a big 4 blade prop, jump up and burn little fuel, but I'm not gonna win a race. I'd buy another one in a heartbeat. But you definitely know it's there, it's as heavy as I would want for this boat.
pondfisher
Yami F115 SHO. That will be my re-power no doubt. Light, fast, low maintenance, meets the CG rating, etc. Second choice would be Merc. 115 Pro XS.

DaveC
I loaded a Merc 115 pro XS on my 2000' 17" MA and it runs great, still doing some prop testing and breaking in but it's already pushing up 48 mph , my hope is 51-52. I wouldn't go bigger, that hull will ride low enough on the stern, my goal was to reduce weight. Speed is fun but at the risk of tearing up the boat not for me.... tiburon8u
Thanks folks. I reconsider the reporter and went with a smaller Hp. Suzuki 115 SS. Thanks for all the advise
FLDXT
I believe the Zuke 90, 115 and 140 are all the same basic engine/block. You should be happy with it.

Thanks for all the advise The VF 115 SHO Yamaha is 377 lbs. . Lots of low end power that gives a great hole shot. Call Family Boating Center in Tampa . They are a repower center and should be able to take care of all your needs .

Thanks for all the advise What influenced your decision to go with the Suzuki 115SS? What is the difference between a 115 and a 115 SS? Give us a report when you get it dialed in, I am interested in how it performs.
DonV
Hummm.......good question Dale! I do know the paint job is much, much cooler on the SS. Plus I noticed the Zuke 2.0 liter displacement versus the 1.7 on the Yamaha with the 115 hp model.
FLDXT
Back in the day, the df140 was a few lbs lighter than the 115 and the 90 if I recall correctly, not sure of its still the same.
lurem
FLDXT, Looking on the Suzuki website you are correct. Same bore and stroke between the 115hp and 140hp, but the 115 weighs 401 pounds and the 140 weighs 394 pounds??? I still can't find out what makes the 115SS a SS beside the 10 mph paint job!
