Southeast Owners Tournament in Charleston, SC

Recommended Posts

Also, I can't say enough good things about Haddrell's Point Tackle. They are good guys and the real deal. Don't even fool with the other "tackle" shop in town with a trendy logo. They're more interested in selling t-shirts than fishing. Go to Haddrell's and get the scoop on what's going on. Best shop in Mount Pleasant hands down. I'm sure the West Ashley store follows suit.

Looking forward to the tournament.

It is about time for some talk on who is fishing and where. Not specific sites but general locations and what areas have been productive for the local crowd lately. Will sheephead and cobia be on the list of eligible fish.

I will more than likely be fishing the ICW around the Isle of Palms area and north of there. Lately for me the fishing has been better that way than the Wando River. Have heard of other captains doing really well up the Wando River but I personally did not do so well the other day up there. Sounds like the trout are finally starting to show up a little better too! I'm really looking forward to it!

If cobia needs to be on the list of eligible species, they will be. Other species will be trout, redfish, sheepshead, spanish mackeral, kingfish, tripletail, black drum and flounder.

Points will be awarded per a point value given to each species that will be noted on the scorecard.( each redfish = 100 points, each trout = 50 points, each cobia = 100 points, and so on.)

Those points will be multiplied depending on the method of catch: bait X 1, artificial X 1.5, and fly X 2. Anglers may try to increase their point totals by catching multiple fish of the same species using different tackle, but only five fish per species will count toward the day’s total. A species bonus of 100 points will be added to the day’s total for each different qualifying species caught above two species. For instance, 3 species = 100 bonus points, 4 species = 200 bonus points, and so on.

One raffle ticket will be awarded for each 50 points scored -- 200 total points = 4 extra raffle tickets. Make sense?

The biggest rule above all else is to have fun.

Great fish Fritz! That thing was 88lbs!! What a beast. For those of you needing anything for this coming weekend we will be offering a discount as discussed earlier. When you go up to the cash register just tell them you are fishing the MBC Owner's tournament and we will give you a discount on applicable items. This will be honored at either Haddrell's location on Friday only so take advantage of it if you need anything. Looking forward to fishing with all of you!

We have 24 boats registered equating to 50 anglers.

A number of people have asked about the rules posted on the online itinerary at mbcboats.com. The primary rule to be followed by every participant is that competing take a backseat to having fun and celebrating the good fortune of being to be able to spend time on the water in great boats.

That said, we have expanded the eligible species to include: trout, redfish, sheepshead, spanish mackeral, kingfish, tripletail, black drum, flounder and cobia.

It seems that Fritz's 88 lb cobia has people concerned that the 20 lb test line limit might be too small. We'll make a concession and allow up to 40 lb mono or braid. As for the number of rods per angler, you can bring as many as you like, but only one per angler can be fished at any one time in all situations except for trolling, when a maximum of five lines can be deployed.

Look forward to seeing everyone Friday.

Thanks again to all the participants. Let's make it even bigger next year!

Congrats again to Whitney Pitts (Ladies Champion) and Ben Banks ( Grand Champion and Master Angler).

Whitney won the highly contested ladies division by maxing out her redfish quota and separated herself with the artificial bonus.

Ben, fishing with Brian Rose, last year's winner, filled his quota of redfish and added 5 flounder.

All in all, there were over 70 redfish scored, (despite difficult full moon tides) proving that Charleston is definitely an exceptional redfish fishery.

Thanks again to our friends and sponsors who contributed over $6000 worth of raffle prizes and captain's bag goodies:
