annehizer
I recently purchased a 2000 17’ ma. It has a 130 Yamaha. I would like to know where the motor should be mounted and what prop should be on it. I’m not sure what size prop I have on it now. It is mounted as low as it will go. I can see it was mounted 2 holes higher in the past. Any input will be appreciated.
annehizer
Top end isn’t my goal but a 30-35 mph cruise would be nice.
Moderator
Couple things first: No jackplate, right ? Is the boat repowered ? Could that motor have come off another hull, previously mounted differently.. ? We have a whole bunch of MA owners that will log on sooner or later, and help you with that question.. annehizer
The motor is the original, no jack plate. Doesn’t appear to ever had a jack plate either judging by the oxidation marks on the transom.

Flats Man
I have a 98' MA17 with the original Yam 130, after trying 4 different props I achieved the best numbers with a stainless 13.25 X 16 Pitch 4 blade. Although it's not one of the nicer tricked out props, the performance is outstanding, surprisingly it's a Stiletto. Stiletto would not have been my first choice or even my recommendation to anyone but it was available at the time and I have no reason to change it, been running it now for several years. If I was going to change, I'd be looking at a stern lifting Powertech, but that's an opinion, have not tried one. I bet someone here has. Hope this helps. annehizer
Very helpful thank you. Do you remember what holes your engine is mounted at? I should have the boat up and running this weekend. Hope to get out and start testing things out.
Flats Man
It's all the way down, bolts go through the top hole of the motor bracket. Wanted to try raising it to the bottom holes but never did, it performs too well to mess with it. If you go too high with the motor it will blow out on tight turns so be careful. Brooks V
I run the powertech ptr4 blade 16 p prop and I have my motor at second hole from top . 30 mph cruise at like 4k and 5700 rpm trimmed out at like 40 mph. excellent grip, lift and hole shot highly recommend . FLDXT
I have a 130, I actually have a DF140, but mine is also all the way down on a 99 17MA. I run a PT 4 blade with zero complaints. Boat will jump on plane and plane at low mph which is handy running shallow.
