jason p
I know in theory transom mount transducers an step hulls don’t work very well, I have a Simrad Total Scan mounted on the engine bracket ( the molded fiberglass transom bracket not the jack plate) so it’s 12” out of the water on plane and obviously doesn’t read bottom. Has anyone had any luck, reading bottom on plane, with a transducer mounted in the “traditional location” bottom of the transom of a stepped hull Pathfinder? I’d like to hear from others before going through the trouble and putting more holes in the boat relocating to the bottom of the transom, if not I’ll just leave it where it is. The original owner installed a GO9 so there’s only one transducer output and I’d rather just stick with what I have if possible instead of installing a thru-hull. finbully
My 2500 has two transducers. The total scan is mounted on the transom and a shoot-thru is mounted more forward, near the steps but I'm not certain of the exact location. I supplied MBG with the transducers and had them install for me since they know better where to place them than me (also I wanted Navico products rather than what MBG offers). I've been pleased with the on plane results. With any boat I've owned, there are times when I loose the bottom or it becomes very diffuse while on plane - stepped or non-stepped hulls. In these limited cases if I really need to see the bottom, I just slow down a bit. When I run on plane, I use my charts more so than sonar so this is not an issue for me. I recommend calling their technical support for placement of a second transducer since you already have the transom mounted total scan. At some point, I'll find the exact location of my shoot-thru transducer but I need to remove all five batteries and the cover they rest on to do so. This task will be so I can pull a cable for a Point 1 that I want to install and will mount in the rear deck area.
jason p
There is a spot for the thru hull under the batteries, I’m just trying not to do that right now, my Simrad GO9 only has one sonar output so I can’t run two transducers. Have you ever tried reading bottom while on plane with your transom mounted Transducer?
CaptDavis
I have two of them mounted on the back. I can read on plane. Fast and/or rough water, then I don't read very well. Not that I can't, it's just not very good. Other than that, it seems to be fine for most of the time. Above 30mph, and you will start to skip too much. jason p
Thanks Capt. could you tell me where they are mounted, side-to-side in relation to the keel... and are they mounted flush with the hull bottom or slightly higher/lower? I come from poling skiffs and know nothing of transducers and correct placement. Appreciate it.
CaptDavis
Both are 2 ft from the keel. One is a Livescope, so it does stick down, the the other is a regular transducer that is about 1/8th in down from the bottom.

I have purchased the LiveScope and EchoMap UHD and am researching mount options on my 2004 Pathfinder 2200V. A look at your consoled would be useful also.
