DavisIslander
I enjoy catching and making fresh fish and presently in our area, my three major species are off limits. Reds, Trout, and Snook. I didn't like to keep many Snook anyway, once in a while. I know we get tripletail, mangroves, the rare bluefish and Spanish, but my question is...on the "Best Coast, Tampa bay what else should I be targeting? It's too late for Cobia, not a big fan of shark, not a sailcat subscriber so? Any suggestions? Thanks, Been jumping the Tarpon nicely, but again - fun to play with, not to eat! ififish
Mangos Grits and grunts is an old Florida favorite chumming and catching mullet on a hook is great fun and good eating in my opinion

Davej
There's been no shortage of Cobia and Triple Tail this year from the Tip of Davis Island down to the Sky Way. I fish the bay every weekend, but don't typically keep any fish. When you mix the raw sewage from upper Tampa Bay with the chemical run off from Mosaic and the Big Bend Power Plant, the thought of eating something from the Bay doesn't seem too appetizing to me.

Davej you are entitled to your opinion of the Bay. In the 20+ years I've been fishing out of Davis Islands I've yet to see a diseased or deformed gamefish. I've eaten them with no issues whatsoever. They have been healthy and delicious. We agree to disagree and thank you for the tip!

Hey DaveJ, I'd love a couple pointers on the cobia lol. Caught some trips this year on markers and bouys, but haven't even seen a cobia in a couple years. I've seen some caught on instagram but nothing that leads me to believe we have big numbers in the bay this year.
Flatschaser
I fish the bay as well. Tons of Mangrove Snapper around the bridges and shipping channel.
Davej
tesilential, Sorry for the late response, I was in Alaska for a month, and sort of "out of touch. PM when you get a chance, and I'll put you on the cobia for next season.
