flatsdoctor Posted October 26, 2019 Report Posted October 26, 2019 I have an F250 Super Duty King Ranch 2014 The tail gate has the back up camera and the pull up bar, step system. All of a sudden, the last 2 weeks, the tail gate feels twice as heavy than it used to. It's not only me, the wife and others have commented on the weight increase. Anyone heard of this or is it me and need to see the Doctor?
Shallowminded6 Posted October 26, 2019 Report Posted October 26, 2019 Have something between the tailgate, bed, and bumper? Things fall in the crevice of mine from time to time and can make it bind a little. Or the hinge might of gone out of allingment. The tailgate comes out pretty easy to look.
MuddyBottomBluz Posted October 26, 2019 Report Posted October 26, 2019 Doc, here is an antidote for your problem, Install the camper, hook up the boat, go fishing, problem solved! You won't even see the tail gate thus curing the symptoms you are experiencing! That will be a $30 co-pay please!
SCFD rtrd. Posted October 26, 2019 Report Posted October 26, 2019 Maybe it has some sort of spring assist to relieve some of the weight while letting the tail gate down and that has failed. Just a guess.

Just a guess. That's my thought too, but cant find the "spring assist"
flatsdoctor Posted October 27, 2019 Author Report Posted October 27, 2019 It doesn't just feel heavy, it always did. The problem is that it got HEAVIER. It feels almost twice as heavy as it used to

Dale Nelson Posted October 29, 2019 Report Posted October 29, 2019 Maybe it had the assist and it has broken. It’s in the tail light well.
flatsdoctor Posted October 29, 2019 Author Report Posted October 29, 2019 Don’t think it ever had an assist
DWoodham Posted October 30, 2019 Report Posted October 30, 2019 Could it have filled with rain water?

polliwog Posted November 17, 2019 Report Posted November 17, 2019 I'm betting it is in fact an assist spring that has broken. My dish washer had a spring assist to make rising and lowering easier . It broke and the door weighs a ton now. Let us know what happened.
