Help Getting Engine Hours on 2004 Yamaha 150 VMAX

Can anyone please help advice a way for me to get the number of engine hours on a 2004 Yamaha VMAX 150 VX 150TLRC outboard?  This is an OX66 Fuel Injection Model.

I'm not familiar really on when these motors began putting the onboard 'computer' in these engines. Your year model may not have that capability. The Yamaha digital gauges usually kept track of the hours on the earlier engines.

I am trying to sell the my Pathfinder 2200 and everyone keeps asking how many hours are on the boat.  I don't know how to answer them?

You should be able to get a print out from your mechanic if they hook to the computer. I was told by my mechanic you can get the hours and what rpm they were at on all Yamahas post 2000.

Not necessarily. I had a 2001 that was a non-computerized engine. No way to verify engine hrs other than having digital gauges with hour function.

I know my  03 150 hpdi vmax will show hrs if hooked to computer or on my dig gauge if correct bottom is pushed. Good luck. Fin

Under the cowl on the right side is a Deutsch  style plug with a cap. This will plug into a mechanics computer or with the right combination of chords into a laptop that has the Yamaha YES program on it. The program will give you a lot of historical information,  such as total hrs. As well as hrs in each rpm range. It will tell you how many times its ran hot and overreved. The program  is also useful for troubleshooting and tuning.

Thank you everyone for the information.  I have found the Yamaha software for purchase that can be installed on a laptop but I do not think this will work on my OX66 outboard model.  Is the software that the mechanics use available for purchase?

I don't know this as a fact but, I don't think a download is possible on that motor. So the only way to know hours is via the gauge, and assuming its the original gauge. If the gauge has been replaced the hours won't match.

Yes, the gauges have been replaced.  Everyone asks, how many hours on the motor?  I tell have to tell them, I don't know.  very frustrating.

Any idea how many hours were on the gauge when replaced? If so, some math from the old and new and you can come up with a good estimate.

I have an 04 200 vmax hpdi. It has the plug and I have harness and program. Look on starboard side for the connection.

Most of the harness connections and software come off the internet and are made up. I will  try to get a picture of mine and some information.

This is the part that keeps me thinking that the software will not work for my motor. 

 

The OX66 do not have the same engine computer style setup as the HPDI's do. The self diagnostic's on a OX66 are done with a Diagnostic Indicator (special wire harness with flashing light). The HPDI's diagnostics are acsessed(sp) with a laptop computer running special Yamaha software. Only the laptop version will give you the engine hours(actually its ECM run time).
 

This kit will not work on all 2-stroke carbed, EFI(OX66) or carbed 4-stroke engines.
