Ron in Atlanta
Took the TRS 2200 up to the Tennessee River, North of Chattanooga, South of Knoxville near the Hiawassee National Wildlife Refuge. Migrating Sandhill Cranes stop off here for a rest during migration. A little mating dance Hanging with the flock of White Pelicans These large birds are great flyers Couples always fly together Then, I looked over at a nearby sand bar and saw this This Bald Eagle had a very large fish. He called in his eaglet, they don't get the white head and tail until they are 5 years old or so You can see the family resemblance though Then, his mate showed up, she is larger than he is She and the youngster have a little tiff over who gets the food first Dirt flys she wins and gets to finish the fish Anyone know what king of fish that is? It was about 7-9 pounds. It's amazing what you can see out there.

I hate to get into the weeds on the technical stuff but for you Dino, any time. These were taken with the Nikon D850 SLR, which has a 49 megapixel, full size sensor. The eagle family on the sand bar were photographed at 1/2000 sec, f 6.3 using auto ISO which in this case settled on an ISO of 400 since the sun was out, etc. My wildlife lens is a Sigma 150mm - 600mm Sport Zoom. All these were taken hand held at the 600mm setting. The flying Cranes were photographed at 1/2500 sec. As noted earlier, I could not upload my photographs to the Forum lately, turns out, the files were too large. In order to post these, I HAD TO REDUCE THE RESOLUTION by saving the files as smaller jpg's. If you wonder what the originals look like, here is a Dropbox link to them https://www.dropbox.com/sh/35lo5zyeet8j455/AABX7wUf-QybZDVevh0gHCVma?dl=0 I'm surprised that no one noticed the stick-like object on the male eagle's back (the third eagle shot down). I met this guy 2 years ago and worried that the object was a broken off cross bow arrow that some fool fired at the bird. Sent the images to the Tennessee. DNR and they got back to me with the good news that this bird had been captured by biologists and fitted with a GPD/radio transmitter in order to study migration patterns. When I saw that I had the same bird here, I sent the images to the biologists (who knew where the bird was but not how he is doing). The photos show that he is doing very well indeed - a mate, a recent eaglet, ability to catch large fish - life is good for this fellow!

Are you kidding, that would get the boat dirty! Naw, seriously, I use the boat as a good place to stand while photographing wildlife. She is easily trailered anywhere (and if you live inland in Atlanta, that is critical ). She has been all over the Georgia, South Carolina and Florida coasts, in dozens of Florida lakes and rivers and of course, the Tennessee River for this purpose. My dad was an avid fisherman and had a 14 foot, molded plywood Penn Yan boat with oak ribs. He spent every spare moment out fishing. Years ago, he and mom came to visit me in Connecticut where I kept a 33 foot C&C sail boat which I raced quite a bit. They came out with us for a cruse around the harbor. He asked, "What do you do with this boat, just ride around all day, don't you fish?" "That's right" I said. He looked at my mother and said, "Where did we go wrong raising him?" He would have loved the Pathfinder.

I sold my previous boat, the 2000V to a delightful couple in St Augustine. I told them that I would only sell the boat to them if they promised to take good care of her. They promised. So, I drove her down to St Augustine, took them out for sea trials, they loved her and the deal was done. As I was driving home the next day, with no boat behind the truck 😢, I got a text from them as I got to Atlanta. "We took her out in the salt water this morning and we wanted you to see that we were washing her down right away as you told us to..." with these photos... I definitely felt much better after seeing those pics!
