koondog Posted February 19, 2020 Report Posted February 19, 2020 Looking to install 4 JL 7.7 speakers with a JL 400/4 amp. Current battery setup is —- 3 batteries . 1 house/crank and 2 for 24v trolling motor. I will have the ability to crank boat using trolling motor batteries in emergency. Do I need to add another house battery for the amp? Quote
SouthernWake Posted February 19, 2020 Report Posted February 19, 2020 Look into the Perko switch that allows you to pull from all 3 batteries. Quote
THE OUTLAW Posted February 19, 2020 Report Posted February 19, 2020 I have the same stereo , but with the 8.8’s and it is hooked up to one of my troller batts . When I am fishing , I do not listen to music. When I am at sandbar, I do not have my troller . I jamponey that critter wide open , for hours at a time , never with a issue . Batts are Odyssey 1200’s with AC/DC Stealth charger . Hope that helps . 🇺🇸🏴☠️ Quote
linesider 159 Posted February 19, 2020 Report Posted February 19, 2020 Seems fine to me. Get a jump pack just in case but should be no issue. I run 4 8.8jls and 4 6.5 jls with a 12 inch sub for hours off a single group 31 optima. Definitely takes some juice but ive yet to have to switch over to my other battery. I do have an ACR relay that helps manage charge levels when motor is running Quote
BradM Posted February 19, 2020 Report Posted February 19, 2020 I ran 4 - 7.7's and 10" sub for years and years on a single battery, and like Linesider, has an ACR just in case. Never had an issue. I'm about to wire up another amp and a sub on the new boat, and will be adding a battery and ACR, but will run both amps of a single battery and have a tm battery ready for reserve. Outside of that, make up a set of short jumper cables and roll with it. Quote

Of course the guy that is going to be doing the install says he would recommend adding a battery... lol Just wanting to avoid new battery, battery charger, etc... Quote
