shallowsalt Posted April 13, 2020 Report Posted April 13, 2020 I have a 2005 22V and would prefer not to drill into transom. Has anyone mounted the depth finder transducer on the bottom of the trim tab? Is there another mounting option? Quote
smilemaker Posted April 13, 2020 Report Posted April 13, 2020 If it is a multifunction with sidescan being so far back the motor will interfere with the signal. The other disadvantage is as you use the tabs the angle of your transducer will change and affect the true depth. Quote
fin-addict Posted April 13, 2020 Report Posted April 13, 2020 Do Not Mount There. Will not read accurate. Many reasons not to sorry. Quote
Ron in Atlanta Posted April 13, 2020 Report Posted April 13, 2020 3 hours ago, shallowsalt said: Is there another mounting option? Well, yes there is if you don't need the water temp readings. When I bought my first Pathfinder, the 2000V, I had the transducer mounter INSIDE the hull. I told the dealer that I hated the sight of the transducer hanging off the transom, throwing a tiny wake, subject to breakage, etc. If done inside the hull, it needs to be along the center line where there is solid hull between the transducer and the water. Plus, you need to have access to that location from inside the boat. On the 2000V, the only area with access was above the pocket - no go there since the flow through the pocket was mixed water and air, not good for readings under way. I asked George Lachapel at the dealership if there was solid glass under the leaning post. "Yes, but we can't access the inside of the hull under the leaning post". "Got a saw?" I asked. Here is what we did on this new boat... Cut a hole, added an opening hatch and epoxied the transducer within a few inches of the center line over solid glass. The transducer was a special model (Airmar P79 Smart ducer) that sat in a cylinder containing mineral oil - worked like a charm at any speed. Clean transom. If I wanted water temp, I stuck my foot in the water. Good luck! Quote
Hutch03 Posted April 14, 2020 Report Posted April 14, 2020 Look into the stick on products such as stern mate and stern saver. Used 2 when I remounted my transducers. They seem to work very well and depending on the boat color you might be able to get a pretty decent color match. No holes... Quote
bernieNC Posted April 14, 2020 Report Posted April 14, 2020 You can do a thru hull mount transducer. Nothing on the transom and still get water temp. No drilling in the transom but you do have to cut a hole in the hull. Mine has been great. Quote
DWoodham Posted April 16, 2020 Report Posted April 16, 2020 I guess you need to decide between a couple of tiny holes on a transom( that probably couldn’t sink a boat) or a big hole right in the hull. No brainer for me. I had a thru hull on my first pathfinder. Worked so so, but no water temp or side scan( which is really nice). Quote
smilemaker Posted April 16, 2020 Report Posted April 16, 2020 With todays high tech units you realy need two transducers. The 3 in 1 can be in the pocket and allows the transom to remain clean. The second would be a bronze thruhull with the appropriate chirp range. The 3 in 1 in the pocket is first. When mounted properly it will read on plane. The thruhull will have advantages and be better on plane Quote
fishbum Posted November 17, 2024 Report Posted November 17, 2024 I have a 2004 22v and want to add a Lowrance Hooks2 Reveal with a tripleshot transducer. It has trim tabs. Where should i locate the transducer on the transom so that sideview will be functional? Suggestions please...buck Quote
