justdriftin Posted May 14, 2020 Report Posted May 14, 2020 Looking for new amp for my 24TE. I had a JL HX/280 that pushed 4 7 inch fusion speakers. I upgraded 2 of them to JL M3 770s and then blew the amp when I putting a new battery in in the dark on the dock one night. I will probably upgrade the other 2 speakers to the JL 7.7s as well. I see there is a MX/500 now which is the simple block type for about $150 bucks less than the 4/400. I'm not so sure about the specs on the RMS etc for a 4 channel system. But is the 400/4 worth the extra dough on this set up? The old HX/280 was pretty good, could hear OK running but not great. If the 4/400 would have better RMS with the extra 2 7.7s maybe worth it but looking for info. Also concerned about amp draw on the battery. I like to have music but its still a fishing rig and need to be able to run livewells and get back home at the end of the day. Quote
smilemaker Posted May 14, 2020 Report Posted May 14, 2020 I would go with the 400/4. It will push the 7.7s nicely and if you upgrade things you can bridge it to get 200 amps to 2 8.8s. Quote
