Grassbottom Posted June 12, 2020 Report Posted June 12, 2020 I just installed my baystar hydraulic steering on my 2000 90HP yamha and there is squeaking coming from the ram when steering side to side I have isolated the problem by disconnecting the Pivot point connected to the ram from the motor and the noise is still there, the noise is bad enough for me to send it back to if I cannot get the issue resolved, I did contact the manufacture and a he suggested putting some hydraulic fluid on the arms and that did not work, anyone else have this problem. hawg Posted June 12, 2020 Report Posted June 12, 2020 Any chance you have a bit of air trapped in there which is squeaking when it gets compressed by the fluid? Quote
SCFD rtrd. Posted June 13, 2020 Report Posted June 13, 2020 I would disconnect the hoses from the ram (prop hoses up higher then ram to keep fluid in and air out) and try turning the motor by hand. If you still get the squeaking, it must be in the seals. Of course you will have to do some minor bleeding when done. When is the last time you greased the pivot tube? Might just need some grease. Try this before trying above. Quote
