AntonRx
Evening! After having trailer issues last years keys trip, I’ve been beefing up everything. Got 2 new high-angled spare tire mounts. Looking at it, I’m curious if they will bottom out at the ramp. Plan to try it out this Friday, but curious what you all think? fishmanjj
Probably depends on height of trailer hitch..... if it’s a little high....you’ll be ok....a little low....you may rub the Landing. I guess you’ll never know until you go at several different tide levels. You may could slide them forward and gain some ground clearance. Wanaflatsfish
I keep mine inside my truck bed locked under cover...too easy for someone to steal them at the ramp, plus, you have a lot of weight on the tongue....how does it tow? I have never seen this set up before...not saying it won't work, but, as above stated, it will depend on the tides and ramps.
bernieNC
I don't think that would work at our neighborhood ramp.
quest4reds
Like others have said it's worth testing at the local ramp before a long trip and be prepared to modify. I have a straight mount on mine that is set up so you can put a pad lock through it to deter the thieves. I mounted it as far forward as I possibly could, have never had an issue. Related to spare tires, I always carry my cordless impact wrench with a set of sockets. Its one extra thing to tote, but it will be worth it's weight in gold if/when I have to remove a lug from either truck or trailer.
Lap it Up
I run a rubber coated cable with lock thru my spare and around the trailer frame. I haven't had a spare walk away yet. Your setup may come close on really steep ramps with a tall tide swing. Only testing will tell. Looks cool though!
polliwog
Have the trailer company you use move the spare higher by as much as you can to avoid hitting the hull. I have seen a number of long trailers bottom out on ramps with a steep angle, you have a nice rig, don't risk having an issue. There is plenty of room to move the tire position up. smilemaker
as said how is it on the tow vehicle if it sits with more clearance than the axle straight down the road will be no problem. I would be more concerned with clearance going in and out of gas stations and parking lots as you encounter steeper short approaches. most ramps have longer approaches that help. I find more problems with the spare bottoming out in situations where the trailer is elevated above the truck . Imagine pulling out of a parking lot that is higher than the road this creates an inside angle that the trailer tongue get pushed into. AntonRx
Thanks. By up, do you mean Further up on the tongue closer to the crank or higher?
whichwaysup
Bah, mount those spares on hubs and just let them roll if they hit! Then, if you blow a bearing, you are ready to go! on a serious note, I really like those. I take long trips with my boat and have gotten into the habit of bringing a spare spare. This is a cool set up if the geometry works.
smilemaker
I agree on the spindle/hub mounts my spare is in the same area but vertical and on a hub and spindle. when leaving steep parking lots it will occasionally hit but it just spins and lifts the trailer through the low spot. RacerxV6
I like the looks but, like everyone says, only testing will know...Rotated so we can get a better look!! Oh no!! 2 different tread patterns,...OCD is kicking in!!! As long as they are the same size you're good.
AntonRx
How did you rotate it? I can’t ever seem to do that on here.
AntonRx
Same size tires. Different tread. Good eye!
