Island Style
looking for a 24" light bar for my skiff. There seems to be a ton of manufactures and prices all over the place. Just looking to see what anybody has been using and what is working. Thanks JD

justfish
Just curious what your doing with it? I have some 4 and 6 inch ones for the jeep and they are super bright, so that's gonna be a TON of light. Check out wranglerforum.com it's a very active jeep forum similar to this one but has a lighting sub forum and this is very popular topic. You'll prob find a thread on this on first page. Island Style
was looking to add one on a new gigging boat I am building. The center console grab bar will fit a 24" bar.
smilemaker
When setting up for night time use you do not want much light hitting the deck. It needs to be destination orientated. If you want it for gigging the light source has to be between you and the fish. If you are in the light it will decrease your vision. I would think that putting it on the console would light the deck well but the water poorly. Use and location of the light go hand in hand. FLDXT
Smilemaker is correct, if you are using it for running, you want it as far forward or extremely high. Putting alot of white light on your deck at night will blind you while running a boat.
Island Style
yes using it for navigation. You guys are right but due to the lights on the front of the boat and the trolling motor I don't have a good place to mount it.
SCFD rtrd.
You can buy a removable mount that fits the shaft of the trolling motor, then mount the light to the mount. Had one for years back in the day. Google rail clamps. Mine was heavy duty plastic with a big thumb screw that secured it to the TM shaft. http://www.downwindmarine.com/Rail-Clamps-Universal-p-91002072.html
FINCHASER
This seems to be a popular option nowadays... I fish a lot at night and I see all kinds of boats running around blazing these LED's. Problem is they apparently don't realize these things blind other boaters.... happened to me several times, Ive learned to get out my LED spot light and point it at their face (for navigation purposes) and see how they like it. SCFD rtrd.
I know what you are saying. We use to fish at night and really enjoyed it, very productive. But, too many close calls with uneducated boaters (blinding spot lights and boats running without lights). Didn't want to take unnecessary chances with my family, so we just fish daylight hours now. smilemaker
It is against the law to run continuously with a spot light or any bright light such as led. They must be on only to check as necessary.
justfish
I've done a fair share of gigging and bow fishing and for doing either you'd be much better served getting the light below the surface of the water to reduce glare. As far as a light to ***ist with finding navigation markers and such, you really need a spotlight so you can "scan" for them. Get a decent lithium LED one. If your just looking to light up deck with a "work" light, the 24" LED bar is going to be WAY overkill and really be counter productive by knocking your night vision out. One of my little 4" LED pods would prob be the ticket, if not even too much
Island Style
all good points. We are fishing west coast and that area the only nav guides are small PVC pipes. I do agree about blinding others but unlike most people I am considerate of others. the area is not very popular for night fishing due to the hazard so there will be very little boat traffic
firstdue
JD how about an air boat head lamp? I've used mine before gigging in the gheenoe, and we use them for our gator hunts. Jim
Island Style
Jim, I have 9 halogen lights on the front of the boat for fish gigging. I also added a cig lighter to the front so I might just go that route. I am also thinking led light up on the front bar and a foot switch behind the center console so I can control it.
