whichwaysup
So, I'm still trying to figure out which side scan unit to get, but had a question - does anyone use Ipilot LINK on this forum? If I go with Lowrance, I won't be able to upgrade to LINK, but I'm not sure I will ever use it anyway. Anyone have experience with it? When is it useful? cadd
I have a regular ipilot but would love the link for following contours!
Grant
I'm not running one yet, but it's on my list because I've spent time in my buddies boat with one. If you like the I-Pilot autopilot, you will LOVE the contour tracking Link. Also, the ability to let the TM put you on any waypoint instead of fighting wind and waves to get set "just right" for the Spot Lock to engage is a huge advantage. The Link Remote is too big to be convenient all the time, but now you can get a compact remote with just simple functions that I believe is Link compatible. By the way, aside from being Lakemaster compatible, Link is compatible with custom contour mapping you can create with AutoChart software. I do run AutoChart. It takes many hours to make a detailed map, but you end up with data that nobody else does.
whichwaysup
Question on it - does it SOLELY use the mapping to guide the boat, or can it follow contours real time?
Grant
The Link reads mapping contours from compatible mapcards. Mostly Lakemaster and AutoChart. It doesn't lock onto real time sonar readings. Here's the data: http://www.minnkotamotors.com/iPilotLinkCompatibility/
