Waterman18
I'm getting ready to do and install as soon as i get my backordered MK. I know that the factory glasses in a plate and the process has been to drill and tap 1/4" machine screws and lock nuts are not necessary. However i just downloaded the owners manual and it now shows that the backing plates in the bow are made of something called "waleboard". A quick search show it's a composite material that is used for different applications. My question is : Do I still use a Tap to make threads for the 1/4" machine screws? Can I now use sheet screws? Not sure?
fishmanjj
Not sure about the new ones....my 2009 had 1/4” aluminum plate fiberglassed in, we drilled / tapped it and went with machine threaded screws and it’s held strong for six years now. Chief5130
Not sure whet Waleboard or Whale board is (spelled two different ways above). But what ever it is Drill and tap.
jh141
On my 2012 22 TRS the TM puck is through bolted. All four. Access through the anchor locker. I posted pics on here somewhere in another TM install thread.
HoneyB
Drilling and tapping is just as easy as drilling for a sheet metal screw. Go to your local big box Lowe’s or Home Depot send buy a drill bit and tap built into one tool... the Hole will be tapped and ready for a machine screw when you back the drill out. I’m pretty sure it is factual statement to say the holding power of the machine screw is higher than a Sheet metal screw. You know the whole more threads per inch to distribute the holding force.
