Headhunter
Any help with this rusted steering bracket assembly. It looks like a major job to replace according to Yamaha. Is it really? Thanks in advance. 328477232_swivel1.pdf swivwl2.pdf
HoneyB
I had a Mercury years ago with a lot of rust on the steering arm. I asked my mechanic and he just shook his head. He said there is enough metal on there to rust until the motor is dead. For that reason I have to say yep it’s probably a big deal to change
fishmanjj
That does look like a knuckle buster for sure. I’ve never changed one. What kind of price did your mechanic give you ?

Capt. Troy
Gotta pull the power head and you better hope you don't break a bolt. Yamaha knows about this as it has been an issue and supposedly corrected. I traded my 2011 SHO at 1200 hours last year to get a new one. That arm snapped off during the engine removal. Dealer had to eat that one. I heard a minimum of 4K to replace and why I traded it in. Dealer rolled the dice and lost. Had no Idea it was that bad as had it snapped at 60 MPH it would have been game over.
