Goliath Grouper Management in Florida Waters

From CCA Florida:

Tomorrow, the FWC staff will present findings from its Review and Discussion report to the Commission in effort to seek approval on next steps for goliath management in state waters, including whether to prepare a draft rule for limited harvest.

The FWC’s Review and Discussion provides an overview and information on goliath biology, management history, FWC’s management goals and metrics that were adopted in lieu of traditional methods in 2018, an update on Fish and Wildlife Research Institute’s (FWRI) research along with stakeholder feedback from extensive 2017 public workshops on a limited harvest proposal.

CCA Florida is in favor of a limited harvest. The limited harvest would be within State Waters and would be a highly regulated harvest. This harvest would allow more research to be done by the FWC and give the State a better look at the stock.

I'm sure Toch Brown, Mr. Watson and the boys back in da day would eat'm up at their homesteads on Chatham Bend, Pavillon, and Wood Key......I've seen pictures of how they would just slaughter them.....very sad.....but, seems they are everywhere now....out on the wrecks, I've seen the videos where they will just rise off the bottom and slurp some pretty nice feeesh.

As a spearfisherman, You cannot find a wreck or large ledges without multiple Goliath Groupers.  Wherever they take up residence, they eat EVERYTHING that swims.  If anyone says differently, they aren't telling the truth.  We really need to keep them in check.  Same for the ARS.  It's rare for us to dive without seeing a large amount of them regardless of location and or depth.
