Friend new to boating just picked up a boat with the above motor. Bought both sight unseen. Had regular maintenance done down here he was up north. Wife came down and I took her out and ran fine but bogged done three times just for a second. Ran two hours with any problem. Ran square and proper wot rpm.

he came down and we went out, first time boater and first time on this boat this morning. Ran fine till 25mph and then started to bog badly from that on up. Back down and running rough, soothed out at 1100rpm at 11mph on its own reached 21mph. Gave throttle to 24mph. From 11-24 smooth as silk. Gave throttle to 25 and started bogging very bad, did not try to go faster. Back down to 20 like silk.

fuel, injectors, water in fuel, anybody’s guess. Suggestions on where to start. Frien does not want the mechanic who touched it do it again. mechanic had boat one year on the hard. Repaint. Electric, new gauges and they don’t work fully. Friend upset to say the least.

buyer beware, knows he screwed up big time. Any ideas. I think fuel or injectors. Unknown hrs on engine. Slightly low on comp but all reads close to one another. Again, purrs between 11-24mph. I reached 40+ with his wife first time out due to conditions and still had more throttle to go. 😀👍️Fin

Older 2 stroke.  Always start with the basics.

- Injectors should be sent out, flowed and cleaned.

- Replace fuel feed line, primer ball, water separator, Anti-siphon and inline fuel filter (under cowl).

- Flush and clean VST and replace VST filter.

- New plugs correctly gapped

- Pump a good amount of fuel from the tank into clear container and check for cleanliness and smell.  Any sign of aging or debris have the tank drained and cleaned.

- Dump and clean both oil tanks (remote and main).  Change white filter on remote tank and add NEW oil.

Owning older equipment can be tough for a new non-boater and especially tough if you have to have someone do all of this for you ($$$).  But that engine is pretty simple to work on and there should be a ton of info and pics on the web to help him out.  He will have piece of mind knowing the fuel and oil systems are tip top.
