flatsfisher772
Would a 4 foot or 8 foot VHF antenna be better for my 22 Pathfinder? I’ve read shorter can be better on smaller boats that may be rocking in rough seas, due to the shape of the transmission cone. I’ll be mounting on top of the t-top. The 4 foot would stay out of the way while the 8 foot would hang off the rear of the t-top a few feet. I’ll mostly be fishing inshore, off the beach, and will eventually work my way offshore but don’t expect to ever go more than 20 miles max. Realistically will try to stay under 10. radi_33125
Captain Lemay once informed me to get the tallest one possible to reach over the mangroves; therefore, I installed an 8' antenna on my Pathy.
HoneyB
Four footer on a t top will get you help if you need help. The height is might conversation is a valid one. But for mostly inshore to 20 miles off the 4 footer will be just fine. I have the Shakespeare little giant 4 foot fiberglass antenna on top of my t top and I love it.
