OldestCityLocal
I was looking into installing gas shocks on my hatches but came across these. http://www.gemlux.com/catalog/friction-hinge-1212 There friction Hinges wanted to know if anyone has had any experience with them. Thanks guys.
RipTide
Dang cool product. Have to give them a call to see if they are made in 316. I have lost all faith in the crude that's getting p***ed off as true 304 and it end up rusting within months.
RICH12
I installed friction hinges right after they introduced them on my 2001 2200v and was very happy with the upgrade. They continued to work well even with a little age on them too. I think some guys may have had a problem with the hole patterns lining up with the old hinges fyi. Not sure on which boat you will be installing but personally I would suggest a call to Gemlux to be sure they match. Jp
jason p
Those are cool, they were all the rage when they came out and then seem to have disappeared. I'm wondering if people are having issues with them. I would do a search on THT as well. Let us know what you find and if you use them.
OldestCityLocal
Hey thanks for the info. Just found them the other night researching. I'll have to give them a call or just order enough for one hatch see if them line up. They would be a lot nicer than putting shocks in there that's for sure. RipTide
They have layouts & overall dimensions on their site for each individual hinge.
linesider 159
I "heard" that over time they wouldnt hold the load anymore like they did when new, and adjusting them didnt fix it. Take that with a grain of salt though
justfish
I've had mine prob 3 years and still works same as it did new. And no rusting on them or the rod holders either. ***uming your in St Aug,...Gemlux is right off Blanding Blvd in OP. I walked right in to get mine. They showed me around and some of the cool stuff they were working on at the time - screw less rod holders - which I think have become pretty popular w new builders. Super nice guys there. 16bayfisher
Good info here. He says they are a direct replacement. If they don't work you get a refund.
pondfisher
Wow, never seen these. So, do they act just like shocks (meaning using air or hydraulics built in) or they simply hold the lids up?

96 Redfisher 18
I ordered them for my RF restoration. Hopefully putting them on this week when I put the boat back together. I will keep you posted. I've seen and played with them on a Gulf Shore boat and they are bad ***
bkh
These are a great option but the only ones I have found that are a direct fit for my 2200 TRS are the hinges for the center console storage compartment. All the others require fill and drill. Would be great if they expanded their line for more direct fits or the factory used these from the get go.
